It wasn't a mile time trial. Look at it. Broken mile (400-400-2x200-400) w./ potentially a lot of rest (elapsed time was 41min).

Most top-tier 400m runners could run in the ballpark of 1:50 for an 800. They're gonna run into a huge wall during an all out mile. But it's hard to imagine 68s laps knock the wind out of Rai, considering he's a bit stronger than a 400 flat runner.

I took a picture of Rai Benjamin at the 2019 USATF Championships right before the race started. I looked up and he was making direct eye contact with me. I don't think he meant anything by it, but I felt very bad, like I was treating him like a zoo animal or a circus freak. I'm sorry Mr Benjamin.
