I don't know whether there is a good physiological reason to put the "long run" threshold at 90 min, but that feels about right to me. As I've gotten much slower from my 30s to my 60s, what I consider a long run has become fewer miles but about the same time, 90-100 minutes or more.
For newer or novice runners, 8 miles might get you 80min+. That's definitely a long run for someone who is going to run some 5ks & 10ks. HSers will start off with something in that range. Short distance runners might do something like that. It's all relative.
Then you have to be an extremely good runner. Cut the BS.
Just pointing out it is all relative, seems like most were going down the path of time. I don't regularly do 8 mile runs in 45 minutes, majority are in the 48-52 minute range which still doesn't seem long.

Therefore, whether a 8 mile run is long or not, is subjective and it depends on the individual.

8 miles officially became a "long run" when I reached 70 (years.)
Yes indeed. Will be 70 later this year. Takes me almost 2 hours to get 8 miles nowadays. Gone are the carefree days of throwing in a quick eight miler somewhere the week in 40-45 minutes with the only real objective to hit 100 miles for the week...

"Irregardless" is a nonstandard , to be avoided,"word" in English (and wasnt even a word until its frequent usage forced it into a couple of dictionaries as a Substandard word. Until recently it was a true "cringe" word that was a small sign of illiteracy. Use it at your own risk!
