If he stays injury free this season I think we may get a sub 3:26. It all depends on whether there's a guy in sub 3:30 shape who is willing to be the second pacemaker. Maybe someone underperforms in their national WC qualis and is available for a sweet side gig.

P1: Sisk to 800.
P2: (?) to 1150+.
Would Nuguse or Cheruiyot be willing to? El G had Ngeny go to 1200 which Jakob probably needs to be able to break the record.

The absolute perfect scenario for Jakob might be: Kessler finishes 4th at USAs, missing the team, and then paces 1250 meters at 3:26 flat pace in Silesia on pure hate before racing some combo of Lausanne/Brussels/Zurich over the following 12 days. This is pure fantasy, mind you.
I do feel like Cameron Myers and Kessler might be more likely to accept this gig than Nuguse or Cheruiyot…able to take it less personally because of their young age, choosing to look at it as valuable experience and practice for what they someday hope to do. Myers did in fact pace the Bowerman mile in 2023, when Jakob and Nuguse ran 3:43.
Stefan Nillessen (22 year old Dutchman, 2:15/3:30 last year) would be another great candidate.

Er...is my memory fading, or did Ngeny PUSH El G to...er...1609.34?

Yeah so in the mile, Ngeny was on El G’s heels for 1609 and they had pacing through 1209. In a fun twist, 1998 Ngeny was a junior phenom but not yet established so he paced El Guerrouj through 1150 meters of his 1500 World Record.
For Jakob, Sisk has done a fine job but Nillessen, Myers (who idolizes him), or maybe Munguti of Kenya could do it.

And we all know what happened in 2000!! I think this crazy Mile gave Ngeny the confidence to hang on (and overtake!) in Sydney.
