He did have a short indoor season - he ran 12:59.89 for 5000m in December to get the world standard, then ran a 3:36.11 1500m at the NBIGP in February. He's now focusing on training to run a fast 10,000m and pick up that standard too so he can go for the 5/10 double at USAs/Worlds this summer/fall.

Wow, not everyday I get a useful response from LRC. Thanks!

You're welcome. Note that while he's gone pro with New Balance and won't be racing NCAA track, he's still in college and probably won't be racing heavily until after he graduates in the spring. But we should definitely see him at The Ten on 3/29.
He's actually doing the BU Track Meet next Sunday, running the 3k. Then running the Ten to pick up that standard.
Tough standard. I wish him the best.
I agree but think as long as he is healthy he should get it. I know the Fisher, Nico and Woody have the standard from last year but other than Blanks I don’t really see many other Americans achieving sub 27.
Much of what has been written here is correct. Jonathan ran into him I believe at BU recently and asked him what's up. He said he's still at Harvard finshing up his degree so he can't go to altitude or anything and that he's focused on the 10k.
It would have been nice to see him in that 3k last night at USAs.
he may be recharging after years of college season after season on through XC that just ended a couple months ago.
if he's now picking what he focuses on, maybe he hates indoor and did it before out of duty. i know indoor is getting more popular but plenty of successful runners largely or entirely skip it.
now, if he has an injury, then we figure that out a la monson when the transition outside comes.

There have been other runners that competed in college, season after season.

Um, he missed significant time due to injury in the past couple of years, due to Gibby and his training. so, he's had plenty of downtime

Yeah Gibby and his training are clearly not working for the two time NCAA XC champion and Olympic finalist.

i think he's talked about never running slower than 6:00 per mile or something, which I don't think Nico does.
Nico Young couldn’t possibly run slower than 6:30 pace, so a 30 second difference in pace, causes injuries? And it’s not as if 6:00 pace is fast at Blanks’ level.
