The VA budget is $400B a year (~$25k per living vet)
These people (save a few Vietnam vets) willingly volunteered to work for the armed forces and most of em worked a desk/non-combat job for 5-10 years and now get $25k a year from me. Why do they need MORE than that?

I’m just glad that there are enough fools or desperados willing to take up a job involving potentially taking up enemy fire just because some whimsical politician wants to resort to war, so I don’t worry that they are being taken good care of.
We sure do. First, have a draft today. Scary to think about. Second, these people sacrificed a lot and saw friends die so you can live a very easy peaceful life now. Finally, $25k a year from you? Yeah, sure. Bonus - I do a lot for charity, mostly sick children and the military but I don't discriminate. A few weeks ago we went out to a veteran's house and rebuilt his wheelchair ramp. We gave him $5K too. America!

I can think of a lot worse ways to spend that money. This is a promise made and needs to be kept.
What you could be angry about is your government wanting to privatize that care to the highest bidders who then milk the government for every last cent.

What promises were made? Why are they more deserving than any other citizen? They were already paid a salary + benefits while they served!
Most of em just do it for the job/stability/because they couldnt do anything else?

Loggers, Fishermen, and roofers die at a higher rate on the job than military employees... do they deserve that too?

You're not giving them 25k a year lol..You're giving them like $1.17 a year.

You understand the difference between those jobs and the army right? You can't be this clueless.

Can you breakdown those cost? As far as money towards GI bill benefits, medical cost and disability pay? For a country that has the largest military in the world and been in constant interventions for the last 100 years. It is to be expected that we spend so much on veterans. Even veterans who weren't in combat arms or even deployed still get injured while serving. From ruck marches to accidents while preforming maintenance on vehicles. It's not a risk free job in garrison. I know quite a few people who have permanent injuries from the military despite never being deployed to combat.

Do you think loggers and fisherman are not friends with their coworkers? Do their deaths on the job mean less than a military death on the job (this includes non-combat!)

Have you seen the welfare budget? It's over 1 trillion per year, specifically for people that don't even work.
Do you have a problem with how much the government spends on illegal immigrants?
At least the Vets did something to earn the money. If we treat Vets like garbage then nobody will ever volunteer to serve.

That is exactly what Jesus said.
If they weren't getting whatever retirement was in their contract, that's one thing. But all these people going around saying "let's give more stuff to vets," hell no. They are just trying to score political points, at our expense.
You get the deal you agreed to, just like the rest of us.

The difference is that loggers and fisherman can quit their jobs anytime if they don't want to do it, or feel in danger, or their boss is a jerk, or whatever.
Veterans take an oath and sign a contract that they agree to go into harms way if ordered to do so.
If a logger disobeys his boss, he might get at worst fired. If a serviceman deserts their duty they face serious legal punishment. Imprisonment, forfeiture of pay, and technically possibly death if in wartime and the Government chooses to exact that extreme punishment.
I respect everyone who chooses to do a dangerous job. But, those who choose to take the oath and serve in their country's defense deserve the compensation we give them .

Weird rhat people think otherwise.
Of course I agree that if they signed up for X benefits, they should get X benefits.
Don't see why giving them more is somehow expected. They knew what they were getting into! They signed the contract!
The real question is do we want to maintain a large all volunteer standing armed force? If yes, those going in need to know they'll be treated relatively well as veterans because they are giving up the years of their life when they could be learning a trade or advancing in a company.

Have you seen the social security and medicare budget?? $2.5T! Just for being old! Insane!
Goofy spending in one part doesn't justify the pro-vet folks begging for more.

I would support paying current service members (much) more but cutting vet benefits. It's no more dangerous than many other jobs and creating life-long entitlements is just bad fiscal policy.
How many Wars have they lost? How many Trillions have they Cost? They should get less not more! Afghanistan was an Abomination. Iraq too! And, Syria ... They gave it to Al Quadea! So ... You can take all this Hero Worship BS and stick it where the sun dont Shine!

Lol you're saying veterans are the same as loggers because their deaths are equal? What are you talking about?
