She ran 3:50 and 29:05 last year, so she was very fit in April and May. Her Olympic performance was off, suggesting that she got her peaking wrong, she picked up an injury or illness that threw off her preparations, or there were mental issues. Her previous performances at Olympic and World championships suggest that mental issues were probably not the case, but she may have put more pressure on herself this time and when the 5000 went south it threw her off.
Interesting. She’s been on a downward trend (for her) for the past year or so, unable to medal at any of the 3 distances at the Olympics.
Maybe this is a sign she’s back on her way up.
She's always had the fitness just terrible pacing/tactics. At the olympics 1500m she opened with a 59! And she led the field for the first 1100m, which was basically suicide given the field had 2 others at 3:50, and 3 others at 3:53 on the start line. She also expended too much energy in the heats. I also question her choice to do the tripple. I think she might have medaled in one of the events if she would have focussed on it.

Yeah she paced this one well. I think the triple is absurd for an Ethiopian given how loaded they are. She should probably give up at least one event.

The Paris 1500 wasn't complicated at all. The only thing Tsegay cared about was trying to bait Kipyegon into a suicidal pace to set things up for Welteji. I predicted that scenario several times in the days leading up to the race. Tsegay knew she was off form and had no chance, especially with the 5000 and 10,000 already in her legs.
Instead the one who got baited was St. Pierre.
Tsegay is at her best in time trials. That's how the 3:53 unfolded. It was paced well and there was never any pressure. Haylom held on for as long as she could before faltering the final lap.
TO THE GILLSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!! its time for WADA to get tough on these ethiopians. theyve had it easy for to long, why they always go after the kenyans when theres an equal number of ethiopians on the gear
