Great progression from him. Never thought he could approach the low 3:50s--awesome sign for outdoors.

Agreed. His previous bests were 3:56.00 for the indoor mile and 3:34.56 for the outdoor 1500. This is a much better mark than either of those. In mid-February, in his season opening weekend. Great start to the year!

Just faster than Rupp's 3:50.92

Also very close to Fisher's 3:33.9, although I don't know which is better off the top of my head.

I thought I saw 1:55 at 800, and maybe 2:55 at 1200

Clearly, 3:50.89 is an excellent time, especially for a 5k/10k runner. But how good? It's so hard to say anymore. A few years ago, it would have been stunning. Now it's just like, huh, that's pretty good...I think. And then some HS kid will run 3:49, and you'll have to re-evaluate.

I know the conversion I just can't do that math in my head lol

Also Habtom Samuel back in 10th for a 3:57. His race outkicking Nico yesterday was definitely impressive (and not as surprising as some people here made it out to be imo), but I think Nico is still on a different level, particularly at the mile apparently. Nico having this speed is super exciting for a 10k guy.

Your 1st sentence says it all. Its outstanding for a 5/10 guy, and maybe the fastest ever for that sub-group of Americans runners

The 3:49 HS kid that later can’t break the top 100 at NCAA XC, has nothing to do with Young.

3:33.79 with the conversion. I don’t know if I’d call Nico a 10K guy though. His best event might be the 5,000 though it’s unclear.
