It's not about "bouncy" tracks, it's about the turns.

You'd be surprised how much force it takes to turn left for half a mile. Modern turn banking eliminates nearly all of that, so it's like running in a straight line. Gravity does the work and you get more effort into going forward.

You're not gonna see these new sub 3:50 phenoms all repeating their miracles outdoors, count on it. Jakob maybe, the others no.

The fact that Jakob and Yared have so much company in all this really means either of them could go 3:42 if they were really prepared and motivated for it. But that would just be too obvious

The BU track is 20+ years old and made of wood! It's not a hydraulic track that adjusts to the event being run. What are you talking about with modern turn banking?

For years now there's been thread, after thread, after thread on here talking about BU's wooden frame and how it makes everyone magically faster. Then a week ago that all of a sudden changed to the new surface at the Armory and how it's faster than all the other surfaces because they removed 4-layers of track, despite the steel frame. Now you're telling me it's the bank angles? Is there a sudden new advancement in bank angles that all these tracks are using yet nobody else has figured them out?

There is a camp of people who say that its not really the shoes and tracks, but advances in training. For once, would someone please tell me or at least give me an example of or describe these new training techniques and methods!

It is legit even though I'm a self-proclaimed Yared Nuguse super fan. What definitely isn't the same is the wave lights. For someone like Jakob this record is no different than a treadmill mile record attempt. They really need to get rid of the lights.

Comparing the two runs that's a huge difference. It was a good run though can't hate on that. Four completely different ways you can run races now. With pacer, with wave lights, with both, or with none of them.

You're acting like banked tracks just became a thing. They aren't new, so what's the new science that states the optimal bank angle that's causing all the records to fall? And how did they manage to get this "modern" technology onto a wood track that was built 20-years ago?

I guess it all depends on what timeframe "modern" encompasses. I know that I ran on banked tracks in the mid-90's. If you're timeframe goes that far back, then it doesn't explain in anyway the sudden rush of records. It would only hold water if this happened in the last year and all the tracks just changed angles.
