I mean.
He ducked Nuguse in the mile, both of their signature event (with both of them being medalists in the last Olympics).
You would think fans might expect to see the nation's best in a given event actually racing one another at one of the highest profile meets of the indoor season. Nuguse was there for it. Kessler was there for it. But not Hocker.
As the reigning Olympic champion in the 1500, he ducked guys who finished behind him at the Olympics, even he must have anticipated (as anyone could) that they would be chasing the WR in a little event called the MILLROSE GAMES WANAMKER MILE.
Instead of racing his best event at the biggest meet of his indoor season, he raced a much lower profile event, an off distance for him, taking on a much stronger distance runner. (5000 PBs: Fisher 12:46 vs Hocker 12:58.)
Predictably, he took an L, and the coverage following the event was (appropriately) all about the winner's WR.
He then watched from the sidelines while his his miler rivals SMOKED his best time (indoors or outdoors) and the world record in the flagship event of the whole meet. Guys he has beaten repeatedly.
AND WHAT ABOUT THE SPORT?
THOUGHTS?
