Sounds like he internalized a lot of pressure over the last 6 months about being the Olympic Champ. He came into this race supremely confident and in the shape of his life, and even though he ran under the WR, he got outkicked by a 10k guy. He said he doesn't know what he's feeling, but my read is that it's just a pressure release. I'm sure this will give him a bit of a spark to chase that 5k time.

In case anyone wanted an example of toxic masculinity, read the above^. Making fun of one of the most successful men in the world (a literal Olympic Champion who just ran the #2 time ever) for being emotional is a prime example. And insulting him while he's being vulnerable, on camera for the entire world, is just incredibly gross.
An example of good masculinity, and something that takes actual strength, is going on camera for an interview an being open and honest with how you feel, and congratulating the person who just beat you on a great race. Not putting down Fisher, while still wanting more out of himself, is exactly what you should want out of someone.
This is a stepping stone to getting even better but one thing is for sure, he has a gold medal but is not satisfied.
In daily preparation with defined goals, a person at this level KNOWS what he is capable of if the conditions are right. However, the one completely uncontrollable factor is that other half of 1% of world class athletes on the planet are able to understand this mentality at the same level and you are going to have to deal with them in the heat of battle.
Competition = Together, we shall see how good we can be!
The war is coming. Don't confuse meekness with weakness.

You are the biggest American jock rider on here. You routinely say that Jakob is “dodging” this meet when he is literally the one that races the most (and wins the most). Learn to give the same respect to other runners.

I do not personally hate him and he seems like a fantastic human but I am allowed to "sports hate" him and root against him in competition, that is what professional sports is. Smart people can separate the two.

You can tell he’s not used to be outkicked in the last 100. Losing this race will make him better outdoors than winning it, keep him hungry. Lose both these guys.
