Stupid question given his marks easily fall within the median of entrants in this event. As a 3:54/7:36 3k guy your question is quite ignorant or just plain dumb.
OK....Strand or Green or a number of other runners with better credentials would be more worthy. He is a good runner but easily the least accomplished in the field.

Believe it or not, every high-level runner doesn't want or need another high level competition on his schedule. Some of them are actually students and have other more important things on their plates.
Most likely Millrose didn’t fit into seasonal race plans for Green and Strand (when interviewed in Boston - Coach Milt basically said Millrose wasn’t in Strand’s plan).

+1
Plus he’s got the American collegian/former HS star thing going which makes him a more desirable entry than a 30 year old European who ran 3:33-high once.
And it’s not like he’s some schlub, he ran 3:35 at 20 years old. I’m guessing he’ll run 3:51-high today and take a couple scalps.

Presumably those guys would have been put in the field if they entered, so presumably they didn’t want to be there. And in every field, somebody is going to be “the least accomplished,” by definition.

Martin is a Phillie/Penn relays kid, so he is from the region and a local legend. Similar to a Touhy, Mu, McLaughlin, he is a popular local runner, who will generate some regional press and curiosity. Another story line for Millrose.
(Yes, a NYC kid like former Robbie Andrews even better, but Martin best available) Martin well known in region for his 4 min hs mile alone at his local league meet, his Myron classes look, his early success at UVA, and general class and humbleness. He is easy going, friendly, and well liked by track officials, coaches, supporters etc.
This Meet is run by Ray Flynn and is used for recruiting future clients and rewarding current clients. The fact that this board thinks that these meets are actually set up by trying to set up the best fields is ignorant.
