We just finished up recording our podcast and we were talking about Katlyn Tuohy's 2025 debut. As I was looking up her result and searching for her actual time, I noticed her brother Ryan, who turned 17 last week, ran in the same meet.
And then I realized how evenly matched they'd be in match race.
Katelyn ran 4:25.54 in the mile this week. Ryan ran 4:05.16 for 1500 earlier this month which converts to 4:24 in the mile which is Tuohy's pb.
Ryan has a 9:19 2 mile pb. Tuohy has an 8:35 3k pb which converts to a 9:16.6 2 mile.
So who wins the match race?
At 3k and above, maybe Katelyn could hold him off.
Mile and below and I'm going Ryan as I don't think she'd drop him and guys have better speed than women in shorter distances. Ryan ran 2:33.97 in the 1k this week for example and I'm not sure Katelyn Tuohy could do that as that's like a 4:23 mile. Plus Ryan ran 4:20 in the mile last spring.
So definitely Ryan at shorter distance but 3k?
I'll post the link to this week's podcast when it comes out. Update here it is: https://podcast.letsrun.com/ep...
