Annie Rodenfels B.A.A. departure/coaching change

Rodenfels is good and does have a ton of potential. I like her story of coming from a D3 school and doing well enough to compete against those with more of a blue blood background.

I don’t know if it would work or if there would be room for Rodenfels on the roster but it seems like NB Boston/Coogan would be a good fit. It would help her development even more to train with Valby, MacKay and others. Also, with ESP out due to being pregnant there would at least be temporary space for her. Additionally, she already lives in Boston.

Your posts are obviously from someone close to Annie.
All sponsors should do their research.
It is not a coincidence that their is no comment in this article from Mark Carroll or anyone at the BAA.
This is another typical Fast Women article that always takes the side of the woman without doing any research whatsoever.

Where are you getting that the posts above your post are from "someone close to Annie"? They just sound like people wishing her luck and hoping that she finds a good situation.

You sound like someone that has an axe to grind. I also agree that you sound like someone that just doesn't like women. If you know the real story, and you're trying to make it seem as if you do, spill the tea.

Through the BAA grapevine Ive heard there were team rules in place that Annie didn't want to follow and Mark C wasn't willing to compromise better or worse. She is a talent. I'm sure she will find a new home.

Exactly what I heard. She felt entitled, broke the rule knowing it was a violation and the BAA had enough.

A ton of potential? That is how how I would describe a 16 year old who is new to the sport. She has already run faster than anyone expected. I assume that she is topped out.

Though it tends to be rare, she may have hit her ceiling with BAA. Maybe she will find a breakthrough after the age of 28, stranger things have happened.

Since the Trials steeple final was her last race under Carroll, I wonder which one of them really came up with the idea for her to try that..."strategy"...in that race.

Of course my curiosity is now piqued as to what rule she broke, largely out of a curiosity around what sort of rules teams like this have in place

I am curious too. For professionals I would expect more of a "you are trusted to do what you need to do" approach

I agree that it would be strange to make much more improvement. The poster claimed that an unrecruited D3 athlete who has made a lot of improvement and is 28, has a ton of potential. That is highly unlikely.

She has run some road races since the trials. Was he not coaching her then?

Since she ran 15:08 three years ago - which was a huge leap for her - she's been consistently running low 15:00s and similar performances at other distances. I feel like she should at least be able to break the 15 minute barrier at some point.

She amazingly hit the Olympic standard time at Trials despite leading most of the race and having by far the worst hurdling technique I've ever seen. If she could figure out how to hurdle she could obviously improve a lot in the steeple.

Can confirm the split was over a team policy that, while she may not have liked it, was a perfectly reasonable policy and had been put in place in the past for a good reason.

In the last month 4 athletes including Annie were removed from the BAA High Performance racing team webpage. You can view the way back machine to confirm. No new athletes were added to the page.

Is anyone willing to share what rule that actually was?

I heard through the Boston grapevine that Rodenfels was creeped by staying in house with Carroll at trials and wanted her husband to stay too but carroll flipped out and said no and said she should get new coach

she’ll probably get picked up but it’s unlikely at 28 she’ll run much faster, a decent training partner at the least for some of the better teams but not anyone in serious contention for a team

It’s a pretty bad look for BAA folks to anonymously trash their teammates when they leave. There was a similar nasty thread when Erika Kemp left.

If true, that’s an effed policy and I’d want no part of that team.
