She ran 4:34.45 at this event last year (in the girls' race) -- I don't think there's any reason to believe she's in worse shape now. The question is how much better.

Why would she be in better shape now? Her calendar would look to a peak in May/June culminating in USATF meet in June, hoping to make the 1500 final.
This will be her 2025 opener, perhaps only off base work. 4:36.
Remember that she will starting college in August and USATFs are VERY late this year. The USATF outdoor championships is July 31 - Aug 3. So maybe she'll end her outdoor season late June or early July. You have to imagine she will run New Balance Nationals (6/19-21) and maybe try to run Prefontaine (July 5).
I see she's now entered in the Millrose (pro) mile. Being billed as another chance for her to get Mary Cain's record.
same race Cain set the record in too. This years version should be much faster than 2013 however where Cain came in 2nd place in 4:28. Engelhardt may be at the back of the pack even if she does set the record.
She's doing way too much and is going to destroy her season if she doesn't slow down. She's already all KT taped up and trying to outrun an injury. That never works well. I understand she wants the HS record and this is probably her last chance to get it, but she's going to regret it later.

4:28.25 Cain is the indoor mile record.
The 1500/1600/mile all season conversion time is 4:24 low.
If she somehow managed a 4:23xx, and a 4:03xx 1500 over the remainder of 2025, that would have her at the top of every conceivable US hs list.

You're confused. Millrose will be only her second race this year. That's the exact opposite of "way too much". Most high school kids have run a lot more indoor races than that.

You're confused, it doesn't matter how many races she's run so far when she's injured and trying to run anyway. .
