Crazy how some of them were out of breath not even 1/3 of the way through. I thought they'd at least get under 8:00 combined as a team. Is this truly the average runner's level?

Maybe us Letsrunners really are out of touch.
You really thought a fat dude and 2 random woman were going to come close? Have you ever watched HS distance girls run a 400m?
Other groups have tried stuff like this and you need a ton more people. And people need to be able to hold the pace for some amount of time. Get 8-16 kids who can run 56s and have them to 100-200s and you can break this record.

Hah, I can’t run 100m in 14.6s, nor can I 50m in 7.3s over and over.
This was a really disappointing video. First of all, of course they were going to fail. Second, if the goal was to show how difficult the record is, they should have all gone out at WR or faster and kept going until they could no longer hold the pace. Doing a bunch of 50s and resting makes it WAY easier.
Of course they'd all be done in 30 seconds tops (maybe 10 seconds for a couple of them) which I think would better illustrate things.

Taking the average splits of 7:17.55 for 3000m gives us
Per 400m: 58.34
Per 800m: 1:56.68
Per 1000m: 2:25.85
Per 1500: 3:38.78
Per mile: 3:54.72
This is very fast. Some may think that it is not that much faster than the 5000m WR which is around 2:31 per KM. However, I think running 58 seconds laps is very different than 60 second laps. It requires the perfect blend of anaerobic threshold and lactic tolerance, which Jakob has mastered. It’s why it is very easy to fall off hard after 2000m as we have seen others do when attempting Komen’s 7:20.67, it is a fine line. It is a shame it is not an Olympic distance.
wtf is this channel even? It's marketed to be all about running but most of the videos feature the most boilerplate surface level normie crap with people that clearly don't put much effort into actual running.

The entire channel is full of Runna advertisments.
They always have those "This one workout got me under 18 mins for the 5k" with a picture of the big guy in the thumbnail but then one of the quicker presenters is who they're talking about.
Sarah, I believe, followed Runna for London last year with a goal of 3:30. Ran 30/40k a week, over 4 runs "OMG I've never ran so much" with the majority of miles in the long run. Had a filmed marathon pace session and cried. Ended up finishing in 3:40 something and her race day video was all about "I can't believe I hit my goal of under 3:45" - The 3:30 video disappeared .
I don't understand how people can work for a running channel/magazine and yet run so little. It's amazing
