Not sure how big of an effort 41.9 miles in 2 hours on the Zwift is. 10 miles on treadmill was very slow (7:34 pace) for a sub-13:00 5K guy. But 3 hours 15 minutes of aeeobic work seems like a big day.
zwift greatly exaggerates riding speed. I can push like 120 watts and ride at 22 MPH, totally unrealistic. So he was probably just using it as a sort of zone 1 warmup.

Ben Thomas has his guys do a bunch of cross-training. They even swim some from what I understand. Maybe the idea is to build the aerobic base as much as possible without stressing the body?

There are people who can go on a flat 100 mile bike ride who probably couldn't run a mile. So biking 41.9 miles is nothing.

I’ve done this same training day before, and have never broken 15 in the 5k for talent level reference. Not crazy, just a good amount of easy aerobic volume for Cole.

This would not even raise a sweat for a serious weekend warrior. In my 20's I often did bike /runs similar to this (faster run though), even on weekdays after work, and I didn't break 15
If you use an accurate power meter connected to zwift, solid session, forget about speed, Cycling is about watts or watts per KG. If done correctly, hard = hard. I use the wahoo kicker on zwift and it kicks my butt. Same cardio, less impact
3 hours zone 1 is recovery day tbh, especially fueling for it all properly. I'd rather see what he did the day before or after
This is exactly all this was. His heart rate probably didn't go above 120bpm in the ride and 130 on the run. Since he's an Olympic gold medalist, I have zero grievance with whatever this was.
why would someone like him not ride a real bike? Doesn't seem serious to me.
Remember Lukas Verzbicas? Cycling on a "real" bike is low-impact, until it isn't. Road cyclists frequently break bones. Such injuries more than rarely would end a runner's career, as with Lukas.
How does this get upvoted? The AI literally says that cycling requires 3-4 times as much duration to match the caloric demand of running then multiplies the opposite way around.
And people use this garbage for their school essays. Does no one know how to fact check or think critically?
Going 21mph on Zwift isn't hard. Today I did 60 miles in 2.5 hours which included 500m elevation and a few dirt sections with an average HR of 128bpm and a max of 139bpm (my max is about 183). Cole Hocker could certainly do this without putting in much effort.
