Discus.
He reminds me of another great spear man, Al Cantello who coached for years at Navy. Built the same and had a wonderful arm. Coach Cantello also was a real clown in his younger days. the story about him stealing a Russian Flag at the Rome Games in 1980 is a classic.

Compared with Javelin throwers?
Since his victory in '76, no Olympic mens champion has been under 6'0 in height - the "smallest" was Walcott in 2012 at exactly 6'0 and I would guess the average height is in the 6'2 - 6'3 range.
Since 1908 only 3 winners of the javelin were under 6 feet tall in stature - Pauli Nevala at 5'10 in 64, Janis Lusis at 5'11 in 1968 and Wolfermann at 5'9 in '72 making him the smallest javelin winner in history and in a way even more legendary.
