In chantaburi. 8 guys DQd, 3 DNF, one DNS, and only 4 'finishers'. 1st and 3rd DQd if I'm reading the results right. New world athletics rule starting 1st November is the sole thickness must be less than 20mm.
Anybody heard about this? They could have at least warned them prior to racing.

as an alternative perspective, the responsibility is entirely on the athletes to abide by the rules. Yes some events don't always stick to the letter of the [World Athletics] law but this is usually very low-key open meets, not National Championships fgs. If you're competing at a National Champs, then you've heard of World Athletics, and you will have heard not to dope, not to run across the middle of of the track as a shortcut, not to use road shoes, etc etc. This really is basic stuff.
To my knowledge some U.S. meets are the only ones I've ever seen not-enforce these rules for elite athletes (think Gwen Jorgensen, Parker Valby last year, etc) - didn't NCAA only align with WA rules in 2024?!

Wasn't there some USATF national 5k where they won in 15:xx for the men back in the 2000s? Maybe they were jogging the entire race... still slow though

that is good running for thailand, where the weather and culture is not conductive to sports achievement, i mean, why train super hard, to get what? a medal, when you have beer, girls massage at your doorstep? i personally like training there, for personal fitness however,...
if life is really good, there is no point in being a big star.
yes times are much slower than western guys and africans, but there were a few guys missing who could run 30:xx and Kieran Tuntivate who has a 27:xx PB but he is literally miles ahead of every other Thai.
a few of the guys in the race are running 34 minutes for 10ks, and I wonder if they even own any spikes, maybe no coach or a coach that's their Dad or something, and they're expected to know a new rule only introduced a month before? seems harsh.
reading some comments on facebook, the women's race had the same thing, i.e. women wearing cushioned super shoes, but nobody protested. somebody protested the men's result, so the referee or whatever the term is measured everybody's shoes.
