By now, virtually everyone who ran in middle school pre-COVID, who has had the chance to commit to a college, has done so. This makes me feel very old. Regardless, I thought it might be cool to see how cleanly (or not) grade-level top rankings remain the same over the years. I created this list from 1600s, 1500s, and full miles, and converted all the marks to the former.

50. Caleb Hymans (4:39.86 equivalent - Fairfax County, VA): finished his senior year with 1:54/4:13. Committed to George Mason University in his hometown but hasn't bested these marks.
49. Logan Flament (4:39.53 - eastern OH): never broke 16 on the XC course, but committed to the United States Naval Academy and underwent a large improvement - sub-15 on the track and 24:42 in the 8k.
48. Brayden Henkle (4:39.21 - homeschooled in IN): top-10 finisher at XC state his senior year. Committed to Indiana University, has won a college 3k invite. Track 5k is 14:24.
47. Ibsa Liban (4:39.18 - suburban Columbus, OH): maybe the strangest on this list. Still ran all the way through high school, but by the end of his senior year, he couldn't break 5. Not running in college.
46. Blake Kurtz (4:39.15 equivalent - coastal NJ): transitioned to the 400m, never ran XC, and never ran faster than 5:19 in the mile. Not running in college.
45. Juan Montes (4:38.95 equivalent - Inland Empire, CA): stagnated all through high school. Never broke 16 in the 3-mile after his freshman year, 1600 progression was 4:46-4:37-4:46-4:48. Not running in college.
44. Elijah Stenberg (4:38.78 - western IN): ran a 4:21 in high school. Committed to University of New Mexico for track only and logged 1:54 in the 800 and 4:04 in the 1500.
43. Joseph Blanshan (4:38.77 - coastal WA): brought time down to 4:20, 15:31 in the 5k. Focused more on aviation, took a year off and committed to the United States Air Force Academy. Not sure if he still runs.
42. Andruw Villa class of 2024 (4:38.69 equivalent - Abilene, TX): broke 15 first meet of his senior year. Committed to Abilene Christian University, 23:11 in the 8k and top-10 WAC finish, making him one of the highest-ranked American true freshmen in the nation.
41. Tommy Rice (4:38.65 - Canton, OH): won state in the 3200 in 11th grade with a 9:05, then came third at XC state in 12th grade. Committed to University of Tennessee-Knoxville and took a redshirt year, 8k best is 24:19.
40. Nathan Streby (4:38.46 - rural central OH): specialized in the 800, came 3rd and 2nd respectively at state his junior and senior years, with a PR of 1:52. Committed to The Ohio State University.
39. William Archer (4:38.37 - urban Chicago, IL): never beat 3-mile time of 16:06 freshman year. Finally beat his middle school time with a 4:36.94 in 11th grade, stopped running after that.
38. Sam Burgess (4:38.35 equivalent - suburban Boston, MA): undefeated junior year in XC, undefeated senior year too until placing 2nd at state. Won state in the 3200 his junior year with an 8:59. Committed to Harvard College (where else?) and is currently 12th in the Ivies with a 23:19 8k.
37. Shane Badcock (4:38.08 equivalent - suburban Bay Area, CA): won California's North Coast D1 section his senior year and placed top-10 at states. Committed to University of California San Diego, has run 1:52 in the 800 and 3:52 in the 1500.
36. Braxton Legg (4:38.06 - Tampa, FL): his senior year, he won the 1A XC championships, 1600 and 3200. Logged bests of 4:12 and 9:28, committed to University of Florida but has raced infrequently.
35. Logan Law (4:38.01 equivalent - suburban Portland, OR): placed top 10 in every regular season XC meet after his freshman year, but barely missed winning most championships. Logged a 4:09 full mile senior year. Committed to Gonzaga University and broke 30 in the 10k.
34. Fynn Krenz (4:37.99 equivalent - rural ND): slowly but surely improved every season.. Best of 15:32. Fastest in western North Dakota, but never won state. Committed to Dickinson State University, an NAIA school, but didn't run this past season.
33. Albin Mullan (4:37.96 equivalent - NJ suburbs of NYC): peaked sophomore year with a 16:41 5k, 1:58 800 and 4:24 1600. Committed to New Jersey Institute of Technology and couldn't break 28. Didn't run this past season.
32. Blake Santos (4:37.86 equivalent - Providence, RI): didn't break 17 until his senior year, came 5th at state in the 800. Committed to Clemson University and has improved his 800 to 1:55.
31. Jaxon Miller (4:37.85 - northern IN): this was the time that won him middle school states. Improved slowly; finished with a 15:51 5k, 1:55 800 and 4:22 mile. Is now a runner and mechanical engineering student at MIT with a 1500 PR of 3:58.
30. Brandon Thompson (4:37.80 equivalent - rural southeast MI): never beat this mark all through high school. Committed to Northwood University, a small D2 college outside of Saginaw. Didn't run this past season.
29. Caden Miracle (4:37.77 - rural northern KY): ran a 4:16 1600 and 9:09 3200 in high school, came 2nd at state in the 1600 senior year. Committed to University of Kentucky, has won a college track 5k.
28. Brennan Draper class of 2024 (4:37.58 - suburban Denver, CO): this was the guy with the popular YouTube channel before L&L came along. Won XC states senior year, track career has been on and off. Committed to Adams State University but hasn't run yet.
27. Will Schneider (4:37.03 equivalent - Seattle, WA): Won virtually every XC meet in 10th and 11th grade, including state in the latter. Won state in both the 1600 and 3200 that year, and ran 8:53 for the full two-mile at Brooks PR Invite right in town. But missed out on a lot of senior year. Commited to University of Washington and took a redshirt year, ran on the A-team at pre-nats.
26. Brody Bushnell (4:36.93 equivalent - Willamette Valley, OR): Bushnell won the Oregon MS Meet of Champions with this time. Peaked sophomore year with a 1:58 800 and 4:03 1500, gradually declined after that and transitioned to sprints in his last track season. Not running in college.
