US kids run on a grass track and call it cross country and expect to win because they are “fast” at cross country not having a clue what cross country is.

They get trashed all the time by all European college runners yet alone professionals runners.

Blanks could have been top 10 on a good day. Do you see how stacked that field is?
Ndikumwenayo 3rd with a 12:48 5k pb, Kimeli 4th with a 12:56 pb, Almgren came 5th and his 5k PB is 12:50 with a 59 low half and a sub 27 10k.

I don't think he is beating any of those in current fitness.

Jakob would wipe the floor with Blanks in a 10k and it's not even close.

Is Jakob in 12:59 shape right now? I would say probably yes.

I also tend to see Jakob as a strength-based runner. I think that lends to his advantage in XC. As long as he gives himself enough space to prevent Blanks from out kicking him, I see Jakob as a comfortable favorite.

I'm Australian. I do agree that Americans get delusional about American talent. I also think people assign Jakob powers to things he hasn't done.

The way he just simply blew by his competition at Euros the last kilometer is eerily similar to how Blanks did with his NCAA competition. The big difference is Jakob is so much stronger and faster than Blanks in the shorter distances in that last kilometer and 400. Did you see how much distance he put on Blanks in the Olympic 5k final? He must have put 15-20 meters on him just in the final 100 of the penultimate lap. And he only continued to pull away from him on the final 400, which we all know was no where close to an all-out effort for Jakob. Translate this to a XC race move, Jakob is burying Blanks.
