They just follow you backwards from camera to camera. We're always on camera in big cities, it's unavoidable.
This is why if you want to commit a crime you need to first go to a fancy dress party where everybody has to go dressed as Justin Bieber. Around midnight sneak out of the party and rape and pillage to your hearts content before returning to the party. The police will know it is one of the Justin Biebers, but which one?
There are cameras all over, so all you have to do is find him on his path and sync up the times. Could be cell phone tracking as well but I don’t know that it’s accurate enough to pin him in a specific spot.
He stayed with 2 other people in NY. They musts know something about him amd can ID him. But I don't have answers to Rojo's questions. They don't know who he is but seem to have backtracked him for months. Strange.

But in my neighborhood in Baltimore the cameras are one person's ring doorbell, another's wyze garage cam etc. They aren't all linked to law enforcement. Are there actual law enforcement cameras all over NYC? Then why in the hell are there so many unsolved crimes?

It was in a city. Probably not that hard to ask surrounding businesses if they can view their cameras and then continue doing that along the path it seems the suspect was moving. My neighbor had someone break into their car overnight and the police asked if my nest camera caught anything. Please someone explain to me the benefit of an Ivy league education. I still love you rojo but it’s baffling that you cant figure things out like this.

Probably had the cell they found before the shooting. That makes tracking him backwards within 1000ft easy if the phone was on. Law enforcement often gets access to private cameras. It is very common for them to access ring cameras. I think there is even an opt in program for owners.

People working at the hostel tipped off the police that they recalled seeing someone staying there who always was wearing the same black face mask as the shooter. Police then went through the video from the hostel and found what looks like a match. The guy in the picture smiling apparently used a fake ID when registering at the hostel. Police also recovered a cell phone dropped at the scene. It was a burner phone.
This guy now has a three day head start on law enforcement. The only leads law enforcement have right now are a picture of a very average looking white guy who bought a gun and probably had a bad experience with United Heath Care. So, they have narrowed it down to about 60 million Americans.
If this guy was really good at this, he would have immediately taken a flight out of the US to a non-extradition country and live out his days trading bit coin on a beach villa in Nicaragua.
