Not much detail, so that leads to speculation to the motive. Was it some poor sap who's condition wasn't covered, a disgruntled employee, former lover, jealous husband?
All kinds of soap opera scenarios pop into your mind.
My condolences to his family, that's gotta be a crappy way to lose someone. Not sure what the motive here would be, if you're disgruntled with coverage, killing the CEO isn't going to down the whole organization. I use them for coverage through my employer, so kinda selfishly hoping it doesn't change coverage on my end (I doubt it, someone new will be CEO and the world will keep going)

United is pretty well established to be one of the most aggressive companies at denying coverage for as many services as they can reasonably get away with do yeah, for your sake I guess I hope the continue refuse to pay for required services.

You are correct, but a disgruntled wacko isn't going to think about this rationally.
It will be interesting to hear more details about the gunman’s motives.
That said, business executives are soft targets as most don’t travel with any real security that would deter a determined shooter. Unlike movies, they don’t have 20 former special forces operatives guarding them and willing to die for a paycheck and dental coverage.

With the exception of Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg, Gates et al, this is pretty true. Even most fortune 500 CEOs live pretty normal lives. I've known a couple CEO's of multi-billion dollar companies and in most cases, you wouldn't be able to pick them out in a crowd.
As the US descends into literal Oligarchy with an impending puppet Authoritarian government, the serfs are going to become desperate and enraged toward the few in real power.
Not sure what the details will come to be in this case but the Oligarchy intends to maim Social Security and Medicare in the next year. Unions will be killed in the next few years.
The wider American social compact has been cracked and is about to be obliterated. There is no way violence won't be sparked.
Don't forget that UnitedHealth is the parent company of Optum/Change Healthcare which had a massive cyber attack in February which compromised the information of 100 million Americans.

Yea, and that will give the Oligarchy greater justification to become more authoritarian. It's all part of the plan. Everyone suffers. We're basically becoming Russia.

Demographics is destiny. As the median age increases, a smaller percentage of the population is of working age. A decreasing amount of productivity in any society is a recipe for long term stagnation.

The Russians 'enjoy' a long history of being ruled with cruelty and brutally oppressed. They are historically conditioned to be beaten down. Not so in the US. When all of the 2A whackos realize that their champions on the right have brutally stripped Grandma of her Social Security and she can't find medical care, what do you suppose will happen?
I predict something more akin to what happened in France in 1789. All of the private protection details they can muster won't keep the Oligarchs safe.

It does send a message but profit is more important than life to American health care companies.

I hope this is correct. Certainly the US has a history of a lot of freedom and its citizens also have a lot of guns. We also have a good system of elections, though that is being systematically undermined.
Unfortunately, we have a large group of US citizens cheering for the oppression of another group. Even when it hurts them also, they may look the other way for a long time if it hurts their perceived enemy. Think about how Hitler and Mussolini came to power and how people accepted seeing their neighbors dragged off to concentration camps. Some even turned their neighbors over to authorities. Not for doing them harm, but for being the wrong religion or race. Soldiers with machine guns patrolled the streets and controlled speech and press. Freedom was long gone and there was no internal uprising. The reason it ended was the Allied Forces stopped it and millions died in the process.
The killing of a CEO by itself is bad, but may mean nothing in a larger sense. It may have nothing to do with politics. But if you look at how angry people are and how their anger is being stoked by certain press and politicians, it is easy to understand how people are emboldened to commit violence. Heck, a President might even pardon them if they do it for the right reasons.
