This is just facts. When I was working 9-5 I would be motivated to get up in the morning for a run, then run after work, I had a lot of energy too and would tick off back to back 90mpw for months no issue. Now that I'm self employed and working on my own schedule (if I'm even working), I find it incredibly hard to force myself to go out running in the morning. I have so much more time but just find myself wasting the day away with little purpose, it's not good. When your life loses discipline, running becomes much harder. There's less motivation to run or do sessions/race, it all becomes meaningless. You think "why am I doing this?". Maybe I need to find some training partners.
I can't imagine how much it would suck to be dependent on a 'pro' contract for your livelihood. Like sure, being paid to run sounds good on the surface. But you're being paid a poor wage and at risk of being cut all the time. You're pretty much forced to run races most of the year round and to perform well in them or you will lose your livelihood. You also have no work outlet from running, as it IS your work. It's not even like you're being paid millions to compensate for the short career, unless your name is Jakob of course. It would get very demotivating and all-consuming very quickly.
Stay in school kids.
