When Mateiko went he seemed to be hurting and dropped back. But the way he came back. On his debut! I don't know about the next Kelvin Kiptum but I wouldn't be surprised to see him running 2:01 low next year.
I was thinking about starting this very same topic.
But the big difference is that KK was in his early twenties, and SS is 29 years old. Kiptum was around his 23rd birthday when he ran his debut in Valencia in 2:01:53.
So I don't think Sawe will be the next Kiptum. He sure has a chance of running one minute faster; but imho he's too old to break 2:00:35.
He did live up to his other PR's: 26:49 10k, 58:05 HM.
Sawe has been great at the half for some years. I’m surprised it took him this long to debut and that he didn’t do at a major with high appearance fees and incentives.
Sure, there’s a chance he’s on drugs. That’s a reality of the sport but this is still impressive to see.
Kiptums coach said only the clumsy ones get caught.
The Coevetts on this board can be a little extreme sometimes but let’s be honest.. one of the first things most people think about when see this result is the odds of this being a clean performance.
There is a balance, though. The Coevetts are too extreme but the Citius bros are too afraid to admit that drugs are around.
Like Kiptum, he negative split on his debut/at an intense Pace.
he was ahead of everyone by minutes and sprinted towards the end.
Thoughts?
Sawe is an extremely patient runner. He let Mateiko go initially and then went on to win his World Half after catching him after a big move. In the Copenhagen Half he similarly let Kiplimo push before a quick finish. The approach is great for the marathon so I’m not surprised it delivered for him as he let Mateiko push a bit early. I don’t love his chances to break 2 hours because his style is to be patient. I could see a few 2:01s though and he has amazing training partners. I’d still pick as most likely to reset the record books but he has to up his mileage as he’s currently in a quality over quantity system.

My honest opinion here as a space-time specialist (Physicist).
Kiptum closed in sub 1 hour if I remembered correctly at Chicago 2023 and/or Valencia 2022 on his debut. Sawe merely closed in 60:47 so there is really nothing to be special about.
don’t look too much into it. If somebody closed in 58:59, that’s the moment we will all be in shock and awe. We haven’t reached that yet.
Sebastian Sawe Is coached by former 800m World champion and multi-champions medalist Janet Jepkosgei. She coaches many other top performing athletes. Sawe is extremely talented.A few years back he won the Kenya national x-country championships. He has won many top level 10ks and half marathons.I reckon he has now found his best event I.e the marathon. Endurance has always been his greatest strength. He lacks raw 1500/5k speed but he can run all day.Atleast that is what his coach told me.

Sawe won in Copenhagen only because kiplimo hit a curb in the middle and got stuck crossing it and lost time there. I wouldn’t call Sawe the true winner in that race. What he does have is endurance but not so much speed as he has so far failed the 10k and to some extent the HM. He is not as fast as the slew of Ethiopians and lone Ugandan. Again he has good endurance which will serve him well Kiptum has much more speed though strangely never had the chance to attack the HM world record.

No surprises there that every time king ches leaves electromagnetically polluted and infested USA to less polluted Kenyan highlands that his energy suddenly also finds him. It’s simple logic. His nervous system off loads tons of neurotoxic man-made electromagnetic fields every time he goes from USA to Kenya and that alone already helps him sleep better recover faster train better run faster using less energy and prevent unnecessary cellular inflammation.
I really hope that made you feel better about yourself but the likelihood he's doping is in fact very high and some experts would consider it a certainty. Sorry you're triggered by a degenerate that's more successful than you.
