So wrong it's crazy. He already has one of the best defenses in the league and solid players on offense.
Lions are notoriously bad in the second half this year and have had so many injuries. Look closely and you will see blatant holding on Williams first touchdown pass of the game, no call.
Yes he would be much better with a good coaching staff, but this is the Bears. They aren't going to get a good coaching staff. He will continue to have mediocre seasons with the Bears get burnt out and end up like Justin Fields.
Caleb Williams has been so incredibly overrated it's insane. Would much rather have Jayden Daniels or CJ Stroud as my QB. Williams poor decision making while on the run today could have cost him the rest of his season, maybe even career, with the hit he took to the legs because he didn't try to run out of bounds. Stupid decision making.
His Heisman winning season USC has a cupcake schedule, can't beat Utah, can't win a bowl game. Did you know: For the first time in 72 years, Caleb Williams reigning Heisman winner did not make the top 10 in voting after returning and playing in every regular season game.
He was not the best quarterback in CFB. He is not "the guy", and the bears suck
Poor clock management over that last minute of the game. The HC and the OC were not at the top tier level during that time. The QB also takes a big amount of ownership over that too.
Da Bears have had a SupegbowL champ in Jim McMahan and a Hall of Famer in Sid Luckman, seriously doubt Williams does either.
Never had a great WR.
Sid Luckman played 80 years ago and Jim McMahan had one of the best defenses ever assembled and one of the best running backs to ever play. Basically Jalen Hurts.

There's holding on almost every play. Sometimes you get away with it and sometimes you don't.
Our defense is pretty injured and definitely not one of the best in the league. They are 25th in the league in rushing yards allowed. 12th in passing yards allowed. 9th in points allowed. Not a bad unit at all but they aren't elite, probably in part due to injuries.
It's funny you mention CJ Stroud. Caleb has pretty similar stats to him this year. 86.1 vs 87.3 passer rating. 50.5 vs 51.4 QBR. Jayden is better right now but I don't see him holding up in the long term with the way he plays. I wouldn't trade Caleb for either right now. I think he will be better long term than both.
Caleb just passed Justin's best season in single season yards, and at his current pace will finish top 5 all time in single season yards for a Bears QB, and that's with a pretty tumultuous rookie year. College is irrelevant.

People already forgot qb took a sack the play before when they were on FG range. That already a terrible decision. Throw it away.
My weak conspiracy theory is given how Williams just sat there for 4 sec AFTER getting set, I think he was under the impression they were "going for the win" after losing FG yardage. Its like he tried to make it the last play. I mean he had to have looked at the clock? Went for the bomb. But alas, still dumb because they had time out left. And of course if that's what they were doing he could have gotten off 2 plays with TO. Teams get normal plays off in 30sec all the time. Takes about 6 sec plus to run a play as Pate an E tell us every Monday night. The line was set! Wtf was he doing?
Yeah it's a good question and I think the answer is it's a combo of both - which really shines light on the state of the organization.
Because you would hope that the guy you picked first in the draft and have guaranteed 40 million bucks too, would be present enough in the moment to realize exactly what was going on and make a good decisions (of which there were more than one option and that started the play before with "no matter what you can't get sacked here when we are already in FG range").
But this is when the whole circus implodes. I mean it was clear to probably a solid 8 million football fans watching, that Williams was entering full on panic mode when things got to about 25 seconds and how your head coach doesn't recognize this and step in is just inexcusable. Williams is still a rookie - and everybody needs help from the sideline every now and then - even the veterans. Call the timeout. You aren't getting the first down but you can get 5-6 yards and make it a 50 yard FG try and you can get those yards and get your FG team out there on time - easily. Teams can do it in 12-13 seconds so you absolutely can in 20. The single most important part of your job as the ultimate leader of that team is to set your team up for success. Period. Eberfluss hung his QB out to dry, just disgraceful.
And here is ultimately why the Bears are more screwed than ever. Williams is a physical talent with a ton of QB ability, but temperament and poise in big spots are so huge in the NFL and a lot of the time you either have it or you don't. So I dunno - do the Bears just have the slightly better version of Justin Fields now? A guy with lots of ability that was going to be the guy that wasn't? Then of course we have this idiot Eberfluss that should have been gone last night but will waste the rest of the Bears season as it's HC because "the Bears don't fire coaches mid season". His comments post game as just the cherry on the sundae. These guys who legitimately think football fans are idiots and don't understand anything and defend their actions as if they have this higher plateau logic of the game. He goes up there with the Pete Carrolls and Kyle Shanahans on the Rushmore in terms of inability to just take accountability and say they got it wrong.

It was more like 2 seconds. Our tight end and WR were still shuffling around on the line until 8-9 seconds left on the clock
btw I just see they fired that idiot! Can some Bears fan out there confirm this is the first time in the franchises history they have fired a coach mid season?!?!

I don't know why you are getting the downvotes on it. This was 100% Caleb Williams fault. He couldn't get his team to the line in time, but even when they were lined up he had enough time to do the play called, throw a quick slant and get the time out. He has admitted it took longer to get the snap because he CHANGED THE PLAY thinking they didn't have enough time, so he took a shot at the endzone. Just bone-headed play all around.
Admittedly when they got down to like 8 seconds and Caleb still hadn't snapped it, Eberflus should have called a time out knowing that they wouldnt have enough time to run the play and get the time out after.

That isn't a conspiracy theory, Caleb has admitted he changed the play at the line because he didn't think he had enough time. Which is hilarious because if he didn't change the play, they could have snapped it sooner, and would have had plenty of time to call time out after a quick slant over center. Caleb decided on his own to try and win on one play against what the coach called.
