Good to know, just Google'd and checked out the article. Hopefully she's getting into a better headspace, and good she's recovering while not thinking too much about running (We can all he guilty of this when pushing ourselves to injury). Also glad she's consulted with a nutritionist, many here were concerned she was underfueling (besides injury she did not look well at the Olympics) so I think it's a step in the right direction if she's addressing that
BTW, article link if any of you are curious, behind paywall after a few sample articles:
She’s also working with a nutritionist and placing more emphasis on energy intake to account for the demand of marathon mileage.
Polite way of saying being treated for an Eating Disorder.
On 8.11.24 I replied to LRC Gault tweet: "she's got a femoral neck stress fracture. presents like this often. book it."
not the sort of thing one wants to be right about but I knew it then (based on my own personal experience) and despite all the red herring rhetoric about how "she had the right to just try and jog and see if it loosened up" and the "initial MRI was negative." no no no. that tell tale hobble in Paris was unmistakable.
That's the strongest bone in the body.
Thank you for posting, OP. This is a very tough injury to go through b/c the bone cannot be isolated with a boot, cast, etc. Runner has to basically just become sedentary for months and rely on either crutches or a wheelchair. I wish her the very best.

Can someone share the article?
I was banned for saying that it was obviously a result of disordered eating back in August.
A broken femur? You don't say? I thought she said it was just a little hip tightness.
I could see how you could get the two confused, though. In that case, it makes even more sense that they flew the alternate all the way out to Paris and then ghosted her.
Sadly, this was kinda predictable based on what we know.
It's infinitely sad and dismaying that an athlete can be so divorced by the truth of what was happening with her body.
Why did Des write that? That seems mean, and I like Des.
Others said it when it happened, but Fiona showing up at Paris knowing she couldn't go was probably a 'honor the contract' situation where even though she absolutely knew she needed to shut it down she had to fake it until she made it to the start line and at least make it off the blocks before quitting to make sure she got her money or didn't have to give any of it back. Cruel business, but there you go.
I don’t know… I would be hesitant to DNS the Olympic marathon because of tight hips and some pain. Especially after having an MRI that did not show any signs of a stress fracture. I’ve had times where something has hurt leading up to the race, and the gun goes off and you kind of forget about it. She may have honestly thought she could get through the race.
She would have been in her full racing gear rather than a pair of warm up shorts if she was sure she was going to race that marathon instead of just take some steps for show and duck out..
Being she has had a femoral stress fracture; you'd think she'd know.
I give her credit for being a 2 x Olympian in the marathon, other than that she's WAY overrated. Not many "Wins" on her career resume.
