BOSTON ??? The Boston University track & field program is set to kick off the indoor season with the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at the Track & Tennis Center
Would love to see Samuel show up since I assume he is in 13:0x shape, but it seems unlikely that he will run after his NCAA foot injuries.
In any case, I think Blanks will run under 13, with several from the top 10 in the 13:0x range. Excited to see how Schubert, Martin, Murphy, Strand, Wolfe, and Musau do. This indoor season is gonna be insane time-wise.
Last year, Young, Musau, and Schoppe went 7:37, 7:38, 7:38, the #4, #5, and #8 fastest ever. Blanks ran what was at the time an NCAA record 13:03 and Robinson ran 13:06 for #1 and #2 all-time (before Young ran his 12:57).
Valby became the first runner under 15:00 with her 14:56 and Markezich ran the #2 time of 8:40.
these rankings are always off when it comes to individuals. How can a guy win the NCAAs after beating all of the guys in front of him not be ranked at the top. He also ran the ncaa record last year. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Abdalla, Strand and Wolfe are running the 3k.
There was lengthy discussion on this matter last year, when LAACTIC’s prediction for the women was uncannily good, while that for the men was less so. The program’s developer commented on some of those threads, and IIRC, wasn’t sure why that was the case, but offered some ideas.
Any pros going to mix it up with the collegiates this year?
Maybe some of the recent Puma Elite signees (Isai Rodriguez, Alex Maier, Taylor Roe), though I'd prefer to see them hit the WA XC tour this winter.
OKSt's Billah Jepkirui should be back in action. 8:49 in the 3k last year, behind only Markezich, Ramsden and Maatoug.
In a post-race interview (an hour after finishing Natty’s), Blanks said he plans to be there, attempting to get the standard for both NCAA’s and World’s (though he was not sure whether he would be running NCAA’s):

But to add to my previous post, the LAACTIC algorithm is very good, mathematically based, and not biased like the high school Speed Rating thing.

Does anyone have the LAACTIC projections for last year? Curious to see them

To clarify my last point, the high school Speed Rating thing, unlike LAACTIC, although it has the word ‘Speed’ in it’s name (which is another term for velocity, aka time/distance) is not attempting to project an athlete’s time, but it is a ranking of a cross-country athlete’s performances relative to their contemporaries.
