JoJo Jordan and Drew Griffith were the first 2 true freshman Americans yesterday. Highly doubt these scenario has ever happened before, with the NXN and Footlocker champs being the best finishers at the best years NCAA meet.
In 1988, Bob Kennedy (Footlocker winner in '87) placed first and John Sence (Footlocker #2 in '87) placed 127th. Not sure if there were any other true freshmen between them. There was no NXN back then.

Looks like Mary Bonner Dalton was the first American True Freshman on the women’s side (although I think Rachel Forsyth went to hs in the US and she was an all American yesterday)

Nxn is only 20 years old. and really wasn’t relevant the first 8 of those years or so.

ND getting some good runs out of their freshman
Rachel Forsyth is a dual national. Born U.S.(high school in Ann Arbor) and mom is U.S. She ran as a Canadian (dad is from Canada) in the U20s earlier this year. Not sure what citizenship she will claim moving forward.

Rachel Forsyth is an American for all purposes except for when it comes to making international teams and for that purpose she will be running for Canada. (It's much easier to make the Canadian team.)

I don't know if this was the case with Drew Griffith, but many of my smart friends who are capable of getting into selective schools like Stanford would pick Notre Dame over Stanford for religious reasons since Notre Dame is a relatively devout Catholic university.

Finishing 0.3s behind Dalton was freshman Nelah Roberts of BYU who passed 18 runners in the last K. She was BYU's 6 and displaced every other team's 5 or more. She looks like the typical under the radar recruit who develops into an All American at BYU.

Not only were they the top 2 in the nation, but they were also from Ohio, and I think maybe even the same Region in Ohio. Wild.
Griffith was the 3rd ND runner. The other top 5 are all sophomores. The'r men's team got 10th overall. Will be fun to see them improve over the next few years.

Great research. Would have taken about 3 minutes to verify this....
