Buying a London Marathon Place…

You can not buy a place, if you did run under someone else bib, you and them are banned from all the London marathon groups events.

you can buy a travel package, and you could raise money for charity - usually they rerelease places as people drop out nearer the time for far less sponsorship.

there is always the volunteers ballot, we volunteered at the finish line and for us 120 volunteers we got 3 spaces, we did a draw but I suppose you could bribe the lead if you volunteer to get the place.

the other option is enter an address which is on the London marathon route, as you have improved odds, nothing is sent out so you collect everything at the expo, I’m sure some people do this year on year

So you can buy a place and run using someone else's bib, then? In the unlikely event he gets caught (surely nobody will care unless he's fast enough to win age group prizes), then he is banned from an event he has never been allowed to run in the first place.

Oh, no! Do you mean he will be banned from entering a lottery system with <3% chance of getting accepted?! Chances that the guy will ever get to run without doing something like this is slim to none, and much closer to the "none" than the "slim."

London did this to itself by only opening "Good for Age" time to its own residents. It is nearly impossible to get into the race (unless you run shirtless with a backwards baseball cap and are escorted by an armada of videographers on bicycles).

I hope someone has a bib he can sell to this guy. Wear your finisher shirt with pride, give a big middle finger to the London Marathon, and let them "ban" you from a race that is impossible to enter.

We all know you get caught because you talk. No marathoner can resist telling you about their mararathon and putting on strava. It will come out, but if its not for the Ku what's even the point?

Oh come on, the good for age is remarkably easy these days with supershoes. If you'd spent those 7 years training 80 miles per week, you'd be able to qualify easily

Go to your local print shop and get them to print you a mock bib. I doubt anyone will check / notice. Even if they do just keep running till you get to the finish.

The best way forward is to subvert these mega races, especially the 'majors', through thousands of bandits hitting the course. Wreck the races by hogging and clogging the course. Print out reasonable facsimiles of the bibs and and GET SOME!

These races have becomes monstrous in all the worst ways. Choke them with bandits and subvert the whole thing. It's beyond time to strike back at the end-stage capitalism and ensh*tification of everything everywhere.

OP- I got into London by buying a charity entry from a UK charity. It is much cheaper than the US based options, but I had to wire the money in advance. There is a clearinghouse called Crunch for London marathon charity entries that I used, they were very helpful.

But the chances of them ever getting another bib in subsequent years is equally low.

Enter as a charity and raise what you can. Pay the difference yourself.

Statistically, given a 2% chance of getting drawn, it would take 35 years of drawings for an entrant to have a 50% or greater chance of ever getting drawn once.
