kellyn taylor just posted a cryptic instgram story with no context about companies failing to support their employees when they hit a certain age - something about being "cast aside without a single word from those in charge"... is this about her or somebody else at NAZ elite??

She’s one of the rudest people I’ve ever met in the sport. Who cares about her stupid posts
was just wondering - don't know much about her as a person other than the pile of foster kids she's always posting about. seemed like she had a good result at NYC so I'd be surprised by a decision to drop her but I also don't know all of the pieces of the puzzle here.
Word on the street is that hoka isn't resigning her or steph bruce after 2024. Kinda strange considering they both compete at a fairly high level and both have a solid social media following

I don't see how this can be a surprise to anyone. Kellyn is 38 and Steph is 40. Didn't Steph already retire once? They've both had respectable careers, but time is up.

We've been over this. She's not an employee. She's an independent contractor, as are all sponsored runners. She should be grateful for whatever funding she's gotten the past several years for being a solid but unremarkable runner who races a handful of times a year.
She was also bashing Chicago marathon last year for 'not wanting her' and that's why she ran at New York marathon. She isn't as fast as she used to be, time to let the younger faster runners get paid. It's very hard to make money in the sport, a lot of people faster than her aren't making what she used to make.
What does her firefighting gig pay? Seems she has a fall back plan.
It's amazing how this story has been perpetuated. She got her firefighting certifications like ten years ago, but has only been a full-time pro runner. She has never actually worked as a firefighter.
sports owes you nothing. every elite athlete that has won their team championships and generated millions of dollars will eventually get old and be replaced. it's a fact of life. sports is an unforgiving "what have you done for me lately" profession. every week owners go thru their payroll. they don't give a crap what their players have done for them in the past. all they care about is investing in the future.
Isn't she like 40? Every time her name comes up I'm surprised she's still sponsored. She was good, but not great. Do runners just expect to be pro runners forever? Need an alternate career plan.

By the way, if she's really passionate about running and hanging onto her career, why not run some trails or ultras where she might actually be competitive and could rep the brand? She has zero chance of winning a major marathon, the NYC marathon is a complete waste of time and training effort.
She is being dropped because she is an old school athlete. She simply works hard and always shows up. She is one of the OGs at NAZ. Hoka does not choose to celebrate this. She was 10th at NY this month and beat Des Linden. I bet that Brooks doesn’t drop Des who is older than Kellyn and finished behind her. Why? Because Brooks celebrates its past. Des’s terrific career is over and she will only race at NY and Boston from here on out but Brooks will elevate her and celebrate the fact that she won Boston 7 years ago and ran her best times in the marathon, half marathon, 10k, and 5k in 2011 (14 years ago). Different companies handle their old timers differently. Congratulations Brooks. Shame on you Hoka.

Des made two Olympic teams and won Boston. Even so, her time is coming to an end soon.
There's very little money to go around in this sport, even at the very top. We can continue to watch Sara Hall, Kellyn, Des, etc. finish 10th - 20th or we can allocate those funds towards the next generation. Can't do both.
No, but anyone outside the top 5 (who isn't young with major upside) shouldn't expect sponsorship $$$.
Although I'm not a huge Des Linden fan, one thing I like is that she got the 50K WR when she was clearly past her prime at marathons. That's the type of out-of-the-box thing people like Kellyn Taylor could have been doing instead of running the same 2 marathons on repeat, wondering why sponsors and directors aren't continuing to throw money at her.
