Tarrifs are absorbed by the consumer. So expect imported goods to be that much more expensive. People say well “just buy American made” American made goods are also more expensive because it’s more expensive to produce here than in a place like China. There is a reason all those red hats and his merchandise is made in China. Trump is not stupid to pay higher prices producing it in the USA lol.
A lot of countries (especially in Europe) disguise their tariffs on heavy equipment as "local content" laws. Germany especially plays this game. We are welcome to sell power generation systems there, as long as we produce 70% of the value of the equipment within Germany. This would essentially require us to move our production facility to Germany, so we're shut out of that market. Meanwhile, Siemens can sell here without restriction. That's not fair, and a tariff is a viable remedy.
I don't remember that much from my economics classes but it leads to increased home (American) production at the cost of slightly higher prices.
Certainly. Should charge 300% tariff on imported goods, and 30% tariff on out of state products. We can produce everything at home from now on.
We can try. It will take a couple of years to get production up and the folks from Appalachia trained. Of course everything will be 5 times the price but all made in America.
What do tariffs have to do with the size of government?
Could be wrong but government involvement in the trade runs counter to laissez faire in business.
If government weren't involved in trade, there wouldn't be overseas trade. Global trade requires the U.S. Navy to patrol the oceans (you're welcome, rest of the world).

That’s just a story about something happening in Germany and it is a very nice story. But it doesn’t answer my question. to be clear are tariffs good for American consumers?

LOL. Ok serious answers only going forward.
I am serious. You are just clueless and refuse to be educated.

That wasn't your original question. You just changed the question, then attacked him for not answering your NEW question.
