I know that serious mass participation 5ks and 10ks don't really exist, but I legitimately thing turkey trots are the closest thing to it that does.

mass participation? There are parkruns every weekend and plenty of huge 5Ks and 10Ks. Maybe not NYC marathon level turnout but still massive fields.
uh, ever heard of Peachtree 10K?
Many NYRR races and Chicago's Shamrock Shuffle (8K) are mass participation races.

Yeah, well, That's like, just your opinion, man.
Even the WMM have 5K's the day before that have on average about 4-5,000 people participate. In my humble opinion that's mass participation.
B2B has thousands and thousands though I suppose that's 12km.
In Canada there's a few 10km races that are well over 10,000+, I'm sure there are others stateside.
Races between 4 miles and under 7.5 miles that qualify as serious mass participation races and aren't Turkey Trots, just off the top of my head right now: Peachtree, Beach to Beacon, Falmouth Road Race, Bolder Boulder, Wharf to Wharf, Bay to Breakers, Bloomsday, Bix, Kansas City Trolley Run, Podium 4 Mile, NYRR 5k, BAA 5k, BAA 10k, Boston Women's 10k, New York Mini 10k, Shamrock Shuffle 8k, Women's 6k, Crazy 8s 8k.
So, OP . . . no?
The Bolder Boulder? Waves specifically for fast people, plus on the starting line to generate hype this year the announcer said it has the most sub 40 10ks of any 10k race in the world. If that's true, impressive considering the altitude, and I'd say that it's a pretty seriously run mass participation event
I'm surprised the Carlsbad 5000 hasn't been mentioned.

Well, you are legitimately wrong.
In fact, your whole premise is wrong.
The Vancouver Sun Run 10k has over 40,000 participants each year. Course records are 27:31 and 30:58. (M/F winners 28:45 and 32:17 in 2025.)
The Stockholm "Midnattsloppet" ("midnight race") 10k has about 20,000 people per year, and the winner is certainly sub-30 every year.
Just off the top of my head, that would be two "serious mass participation 10ks" that "really exist,"
How many people run in your local Turkey Trot, and what are the course records?

Nails it.
