I am in need of some new, versatile workout/tempo shoes. Don’t care if played or not. Need to be good for XC and I need to be able to occasionally race in them. Any suggestions?
I'd say go with the most comfortable, the ones that will make you want to go and do the hard sessions. Whilst for race shoes you want the fastest and may be prepared to put up with a bit of discomfort, for training shoes, then yes you want something that feels fast and not a clumpy heavy shoe, but does it really matter if it's the fastest ? Does it matter if your reps are 3 seconds slower ? As long as you put the same effort in, the physiological benefit will be the same, and at the end of the day, it's how we perform in races that matters, not how we perform in training. So, buy the shoe that will allow you to train at your hardest, and don't worry too much about whether it's the "fastest"
Big fan of these, but I've also really like the Endorphin Pro's. A full plate, but I find them more comfortable than the Speeds. Better for longer efforts, imo, even though they're supposedly the "racier" shoe. But both are great options.

Suggestions? Here's one:
If you are racing "XC" on a course where trainers (instead of spikes) are even an option, don't call it "XC."
Signed, a runner of real XC courses, not golf courses.
I've raced in the adios 7s for the past few months. It's a solid choice, lightweight, bit lower stack, 8mm drop though. Doesn't feel like the new age "racers"
Any recommendations on which of these types of shoes are good to also warmup and cooldown in for workouts? I've been doing most of my workouts in regular trainers for comfort and a while back switch to an old pair of Vaporflys, which was great for my splits, but after a few weeks I had foot and ankle issues flair up. Still not sure what exactly about the Vapors my feet didn't like (plate, too much mileage, or what) but since going back to trainers I haven't had those same issues. I know there's some happy medium out there but I haven't found it in the workout shoes I've tried more recently (Streakflys were kind of duds and Zoom Flys seem to be ruined now too).

Give the adidas Takumi Sen a try. Great shoe. The NB rebel might be better for warm-ups and cool downs. The Saucony endorphin speed is another good one.

Thanks! All shoes that have been on my radar but after my issues with using Vapors part of me is a little hesitant about using a plated trainer. I know the Endorphins have some kind of plate and I think the Takumi sen have those adidas rods, are they pretty noticeable in either shoe? I had a pair of Adidas Boston 10s with the rods and, while I had other issues with those shoes, I didn't think the rods were too intrusive.

I don’t think the rods are that noticeable in the adidas Takumi Sen. the NB rebel does not have a plate. That’s a shoe worth trying at the store first though. I’ve heard very mixed opinions.
