Why is it funny? This is serious stuff and if Amdouni is found guilty it could damage his prodigious athletics career.

Athlete Morhad Amdouni will be tried on "February 24" for domestic violence , before the criminal court of Meaux (Seine-et-Marne), AFP learned on Monday, November 4 from the Meaux prosecutor, confirming information from Le Parisien . The athlete, arrested at his home in Seine-et-Marne on September 18, is accused of "acts of domestic violence committed between September 2023 and September 2024", specifies the public prosecutor.

Another investigation is underway," the magistrate added. According to information from Le Parisien, it concerns suspicions of sexual assault and rape .

On February 18, Morhad Amdouni broke the French marathon record by completing the 42.195 kilometers in 2 h 03 min 47 sec, in Seville, Spain. The athlete, returning from a training camp in Kenya, smashed his own French record to finish second behind Ethiopian Deresa Gelata and come very close to the European record for the discipline. However, Morhad Amdouni withdrew from the men's marathon at the Paris Olympics "following an injury to his right calf that occurred" during training

What is "under Police control"?

It means that he is not formally charged yet until the case is presented in a court and a judge makes his decision but it also means that he is not free of his movements a hundred percent and he is under the watchful eye of the French judicial system. This also usually means that he cannot travel abroad and has to inform the authorities about his movements. Is case will be presented in court on 24th of February 2025.

It would be a sad ending to an illustrious career, despite his controversial reputation, were Amdouni convicted of the charges against him. However, I don't think it will happen because it seems there might be mitigating circumstances.

Morhad is no choir boy, but it's a pity that they're publicising this case in L'équipe and other French media outlets. It would have been better to wait until the legal purveyors finished the necessary work to pronounce a verdict either way. February 24, 2025, is the trial date.

His French marathon teammates - Navarro, Bour, Chahdi, Frère, etc will not be surprised about this news as they were never really on friendly terms.
