Good interview (all Centro interviews are good) with Ali on the Run describing Centro's Chicago marathon and training.
At ~37m he describes the group of guys he was training with who have used Renato's training summaries on the Letsrun forums to design some of their own training.
I enjoyed this interview, came away liking Centro a lot more than I had previously (which, of course, was mostly based off all the unhinged posters on this site)
Centro is my favorite podcast guest regardless of whether it’s letsrun, Ali on the Run, Citius, etc. He is just such a good storyteller, interesting to listen to, and comes across as super likable and down to earth. Really would love to see him become involved in the running world in new ways during his retirement

Really good lesson here. The overwhelming majority of what is said in this forum comes from completely clueless people- from finance to foreign affairs to ped use to specific athletes. Keep that in mind the next time you read a thread.

if you haven't listened to him on the letsrun podcast during the olympics, give it a try. He's awesome.
He talks a little bit about how his demeanor with the media has changed now that he's retired. Admitted he had to have his guard up while competitive.
At least that's how i remember it from 3 months ago.

Second this. It was nice seeing him talk about the Paris 1500 with the brojos and gault - he seemed like a really down to earth, insightful and humorous guy.

Correct. The majority of posts and threads on this site are by people intentionally trolling, or people who genuinely have no idea what they're talking about. Never trust something you read on the internet unless you can trust the source it's coming from. In this case, posts from the certified Renato are good. Posts from I_Ran_Fast_In_College_Source_Trust_Me_Bro are not.

Thanks for the reminder. I've been falling into the "all pros are doping" mindset when I used to think most people were clean. Always good to remember most people here are idiots.

So true all Centro interviews are good. This is my favorite Ali on the Run episode.
Lots of good tidbits about the women's pacing. Said he initially got an email that he was supposed to set the pace for a 69 first half for the lead American women. But couldn't figure out who wanted that because Keira said it wasn't her. And no one had said they wanted to go out that fast. But in the tech meeting, agents for Emma Bates and Betsy Saina said they would be there if he ran that. Then the race started and he had a big enough gap from the women that he headed back to be more helpful running their pace, first with Keira, then Betsy, then Emma. He didn't know for a long while that Susanna Sullivan was ahead of them cause the start was so chaotic.
Keira had gone into Chicago with no set expectations bc it was her first stint at altitude but he didn't hear about her foot till day before or maybe day of the race.
He said marathoners have to go to too many meetings. Even decorating and prepping your water bottles is a TRIAL.
He would never normally run through the pain of the last 10k from cautiousness about injury but he figured he didn't have to do anything for a month.

The '80s video game? Sorta...
I think Centro is one of the most well-rounded American runners out there--performance, relatability and reputation.

It's funny- I've always liked him for precisely that reason- the unhinged, jealous losers on this site who put down anyone who achieves success.
