This is close to the plot for the "3 Body Problem" (I read the book, but didn't see the Netflix show) — and the same star system, too (if I remember correctly).
these things never have any weight behind them. People have been claiming breakthrough evidence of alien life since the 50s, nothing ever comes of it.
This guy looks like the exact person who would be into these types of conspiracies.
There is a great Bob's Burger's episode that riffs on the start of the 3 body problem, too.
All they really have to do is analyze the waveform and see if it's got non-random patterns that couldn't occur naturally.
If not, there's no reason for an intelligence to have created it. If it's not a transmitter of information, why else would anyone have set it up?

Well, there's a comfortable longshot. More wishful-thinking and cyclical interest in E.T. Stuff. Not sure I would be completely welcoming to space snoops: Why would they want to traffic with a planet full of....fill in blanks; wars, hostile inhabitants, disease, natural catastrophes. More intelligent space fauna would have us categorized as a no-fly zone.
More likely that Bigfoot(s) is real.
I love that the frizzy-haired guy in the photo is in some low-ceilinged, basement room a.k.a. bunker style. Only basement dwellers will survive the first wave of UFOs.

If you do not know how stupid this is then there really is little help for your understanding of science and/or critical reasoning. Among other things a three body system for suns provides a very chaotic system that does not have enough stability in temperatures and other environmental conditions for life to make the kind of progress to get to an advanced state. Take a close look at the evolution of conditions on earth and you can see that there are pretty narrow 'windows' that you have to get through to have the right conditions. Even with a fairly ordered system it took about three billion years to get beyond single cell life.
I am about as certain as can be that there is intelligent life in the universe because the 'experiments' to get things to turn out right have so many chances. Multiple planets in many billions of star systems in a galaxy and in hundreds of billions of galaxies. However, 99.999999999999999% of them are too far away to be contactable. Plus, advanced civilizations have the means to destroy advanced life after not too long so maybe they only last 100,000 or 1,000,000 years, which is a narrow window to match our own narrow window.

Just glad there have been no strange signals detected coming from the seventh planet from the sun. This would be very disappointing and disturbing.

It’s rather egocentric to expect that alien contact will happen in our lifetimes. The universe has been around for billions of years and intelligent life probably takes millions or billions of years to evolve. What are the odds that something for which there is no sign of having happened for millions of years suddenly happens to happen in our lifetimes?

Well,.I doubt if the dinosaurs were equipped with radio telescopes and the like.
Life has been on Earth for billions of years. In the last 10 or 20 years, life was able to manipulate it's DNA. What a co-incidence! I guess gene editing must be an urban myth.

The 'professor' is clearly a bit of a crackpot and if there is any truth in his story, it's likely that the signal has been found to be a bit harder to dismiss as interference.
If it is an alien signal from Proxima Centauri, then it means aliens are simply choosing to reveal themselves in this manner. An alien signal from 4 light years is close enough to announce that they are here if we want to meet them, but not as threatening as an alien signal from our own solar system.
