What does this even mean? Are they not competing anymore?

Several media outlets learned on Monday that both Filip and Henrik are done with the national team,..On Monday, Filip Ingebrigtsen (31) himself announced in a press release that he will not be part of next season's national team.
– Formally, Filip is the coach for Jakob, and as an advisor for the national team athletes in the middle and long distance. He will be a sparring partner for those who want it, said the Norwegian Athletics Federation's national team manager Erlend Slokvik.

It means their time as international level track championship runners is definitely joever.

I would be surprised and impressed if we ever see Henrik sub 13:20, or Filip sub 3:34 again.

Filip put out a statement saying this:

I am determined to continue my own career, and aim to qualify for championships and competitions throughout the season. But I'm also a realist. I have struggled with injuries, and have not delivered results that defend a place in the national team. Therefore, it is natural to dedicate more time to helping Jakob going forward, said the 31-year-old.

It means they've been relegated to the hobby jogger tier, and will have to make their lives feel worthwhile by posting about their exploits on the Letsrun forum.

I mean El Gerrouj had pacers who never raced. They specifically trained with him only and served as rabbits for his workouts. He paid their salary and benefits like any boss would their subordinate. Jakob will do the same. His brothers can serve to block the wind and support him and get paid for it without the stress of racing.

wasn't there an issue in the olympics where Filip and Henrik couldnt get coaching credentials because they were still in the pool as athletes for the national team?

I would think this is closer to 99% of what this is about. Both Henrik and Fillip are never going to hit the Olympic/Worlds standard or get in on ranking points ever again. They could still theoretically compete at National Championship contender levels in Norway though, so they're not fully retiring.

To be at the national team you got to have recent results that prove you deserves it more than the next guy. They don't, so they (at least Filip) rather go into a coach position, still get paid, and Jakob gets someone to handle the practicals at championships.

I wonder if this means Ingebrigtsen Born to Run season 2 will completely switch over to being the Jakob Show (running wise at least). We'll probably still get to see into Henrik and Filip's personal lives

At ages 33 & 31 their careers as track athletes are basically over. No wonder they are no longer a part of the Norwegian national team.
