With D'Amato and Saina leading the way, what are the odds the AR falls?

If the weather is good, I'm going to say I think the 2:18:29 record falls.
A 39 year old and 36 year old leading the way? Is there someone younger that you expect to break the AR? Unless super shoes are truly super, and/or one of them is on some untestable PED, I don't see it happening.

Saina was on AR pace for most of Tokyo. I think she does it. Shouldn't the AR be within 6 minutes of the WR? I mean we are talking about 15 seconds a mile.
Lots of pushback but I'll bite since you're actually starting a running thread. I don't think age matters much (unless they've hit retirement age), especially in the marathon. Both women have showed that they're in this kind of shape. Saina's Tokyo result is from this past March & she's a 30-flat 10k runner. D'Amato ran 1:06 in 2023. She just won the New Haven Road Race (20k). Chicago is all about the weather. It starts earlier than some other majors which is helpful. But you can catch a warm and/or windy day. Course has a ton of turns. If it's a cool crisp morning then why not go out on pace. They're usually good with pacers plus you have packs of male runners to latch onto. It's a decent setup.

Any of them breaking the AR would be more suspect than impressive. Most are in their 30's and the jump from their PRs and compared to their other results would be unusually large.
And that's if the weather is ideal. If it's hotter or windier or rainier than expected, forget it.

Age matters less than it used to- super shoes, obviously, in that they help you run faster and recover quicker. But we know so much more about nutrition and recovery and training.
If Bill Rogers were running his first Boston in the super shoe era he'd be faster and his career would have lasted longer.
This could be an intelligent and interesting discussion.
