I mean it's something that I do hope Athlos and Grand Slam Track do solve with an emphasis on prize money over appearance fees. Specifically for Athlos, Ohanian has said he thinks it's one of the biggest things he wants to minimize. As fans, we have no transparency with appearance fees, and they play a huge role in why matchups and top races happen or don't happen. Grant obviously got lowballed here, but what does it say that the first place prize isn't close to enough to compel him to race. As soon as he'd take this low appearance fee, I'm sure every other meet could use that against him. So, he's left making a business decision.
I think we'd all love for the money be directed to transparent things like prize money. Sure there's a lot of structural changes and controversy when you have to let field event athletes know they're getting smaller payouts, and marquee names who are long in the tooth start making far less. But ultimately, it'd be a better system.
If he wanted money he should run relevant event. Of course, he's not good enough for that, so he hides in hurdles. Hurdlers should be thankful their events still exist.
It's the ONLY sprint where a white man holds a WR. That's how much of a meme it is.
Maybe it is like the bridge you cross when you start playing cards for money, shooting pool, playing music, golf, etc. The basic enjoyment and love of the thing is replaced with created needs. Youre transitioned into a harder reality.
I fully support his decision to not accept less than what he feels he deserves. Kudos to him for calling attention to the issue. As his fellow Olympic Champion Cole Hocker said, "Yesterday's price is not today's price."
Seems like a marketing thing to me. I would be very surprised if he isnt joining the Grand slam thing and that is the real reason to why he isnt running. They are trying to create a story.

get rid of prize money. make it a professional sport. pay the competitors a guaranteed amount for an appearance fee based upon some algorithm taking into account global championship record and current ranking in the world. if you're grant holloway, with global championships and a #1 ranking you get paid $X to show up.
prize money is ghetto. appearance fees depend on one's results, so it's not like an athlete wouldn't be rewarded for being the best anyway.
it's been difficult to figure out obviously how to make more money in track, but the overwhelming issue with athletes not achieving their potential is that they don't get paid a living wage to compete. that's an appearance fee issue not a prize money issue. by better securing appearance fees and getting rid of prize money it would serve to increase the depth of competition and people know ahead of time their finances, they aren't having to pray they win a specific race so they can make their rent, eat enough and pay off the travel expenses they put on their credit card to get to the race.

Let’s get down to brass tacks. How many of these Alexis Ohanian decrees occurred on a laptop without stains disrobed in bed with S except the moon shoes keep those on performance
