Historically, we're told taking shoes longer than their usable lifespan heightens injury risk. His comment, especially from a sponsored pro, surprised me if the belief super shoes have a short lifespan is rooted in fact.
I'm not aware Asics publicly states durability predictions, but an Asics salesperson said in one of the many Running Event interviews the Metaspeed Sky Paris is designed for two marathons. Adidas lists a 35-mile lifespan for the Evo 1. Puma's marketing materials for its new Deviate Nitro Elite 3 state it's designed to last up to 250 miles, far longer than the competition.
Question: How many miles/kilometers have you taken your race shoes? If you've taken them the distance, why did you retire them?
My first super shoe was the OG Endorphin Speed, and I admit I took it to 800 miles. Loved it. I think it really flattened out and caused foot pain after 600 miles, as the pain went away immediately when running in different shoes.
