I’m a Cole Hocker fan but we have to be objective here. Kerr’s full body of work over the entire year was better.

Josh had a great year, but Cole Hocker’s middle-distance year was better. Olympic gold and record in the 1500. Area record in the 1500. Olympic trials win and record. World indoors silver in the 1500. One’s exploits over 3000 or two miles don’t have much bearing on middle distance credentials.

I’m not gonna count a road mile that no one was watching outside of letsrun on NFL Sunday.

If he wanted to increase his chances of middle distance runner of the year, he should’ve ran the DL final. Also we shouldn’t be making any conclusions yet as Jakob, Cole, and Yared are still racing.

Kerr’s got a case that you make effectively and succinctly, OP. But certainly if the 5th Ave. mile impacts the decision so much, the Brussels DL final has the potential to as well.

Not just the 1500 crew, but if Wanyonyi or Arop break the 800 WR that goes a LONG way.

And counting 3k/2-mile, which is “mid-distance” IMO, 7:17.55 does a lot of work as well.

If Kerr's two-mile and 3k count then what about Jakob's 3k and 5ks ... 🤨

Wanyonyi should be the men’s middle distance athlete of 2024. Olympic gold and 4x 1:41.

Kerr was not even the best 1500m runner this year.

Middle distance = 800 to 2 miles

Long distance = 5000 and up

I don’t think anything that happens in Brussels can knock Kerr off his perch. Nobody can match his total greatness this year at indoor track, outdoor track, and road racing. His resume is complete.

Remember he also has the world’s fastest time in the mile this year on the track.

The "Kerr"nel of Truth is that he did indeed have the best men's indoor track season at 3000 and 2 miles. Two wins, a WR and gold. Nothing shorter than 3000 indoors, though. Outdoors, he only won two races - the Oregon Relays 800 and the Bowerman Mile. Solid enough, but objectively not the makings of an all-time great season, and his mile wasn't even an Area Record. The road racing? A single impressive run, to be sure, but there's a reason the prize for first place is only $5,000.

Ultimately, we can all agree you need to have more than one win in your specialty events outdoors to be considered the overall middle distance runner of the year, with apologies to indoor track and the road miler communities.

7:17 and 3:26 trump anything anyone else did this year, including Hocker's gold at the Olympics.

That time trial merchant couldn’t carry Kerr’s jockstrap. Maybe he should take some notes from Kerr on how to win when it counts like a real champion. But everyone knows that workout warrior fraud will just keep making excuses for his poor performances as will his delusional fan base

Kerr's track record of winning when it counts is no better than anyone else's. He's won a single race of note outdoors in his professional career. Two if you count this year's Bowerman Mile - a "time trial" if I've ever seen one.

You let your infatuation with Jakob cloud your judgment. Nobody matched Kerr’s greatness this year across the entire middle distance spectrum from 800 to 2 miles. He was a professional race winner this year at 800, mile, 3000, and 2 miles. What other man can say that?

Josh Kerr this year ran 1:45.94, 3:27.79, 3:45.34, and 8:00.64. Nobody else matched him this year from 800 to 2 miles. Wanyonyi and Kessler ran faster in the 800 but Kerr ran faster than them in 1500, mile, and 2 miles. Hocker ran faster in the 800 and 1500 but Kerr ran faster in the mile and destroyed Hocker at 2 miles. Jakob ran faster at 1500 and 3000 but didn’t do anything in the 800, ran slower in the mile, and didn’t do anything at 2 miles. Nuguse was slower in every middle distance event. Kerr had the best year in the middle distances.
