My overall goal for my running career is to break 16:00 minutes for the 5000m. I am 18 now and have been running almost 2 years. It will be 2 years in June. My cross country coach was terrible, therefore 4 months both years I didnt improve and actually went backwards. I am on my own now and I chose not to run in college. I just want to train on my own. I am going to a D3. This school was my best option for academics. I didn't race yet, but I am probably somewhere in the upper 18 minute range. I probably could be alot faster if it wasn't for my XC coach. I am normally injury free. My question is; what does it take to run in the 15's? I willing to work as hard as I can. I am going to work up to 100 miles a week. I am going to do this slowly and gradually. I am not looking for instant result. If I break 16 when I am 28, I will be alright with that. Does it take an extreme amount of talent? Any input would be awesome.
