How are you a male freshman and run a 9:11 2 mile off 2:03 800 speed? That's the type of slowdown (endurance) I'd only potentially expect from a 25 year old Kenyan female

Mantecon ran 1:59, 9:14 as an 8th grader. It’s because they are young not a ton of muscle. That Newberry kid goat 8th grader other than Cooper Lutenkaus.
So are these kids already training seriously in middle school? These times are crazy for kids that young.
Cooper, not really. He's just immensely talented, and was training with his older brother for a stretch at the end of 8th grade. Although, not doing much when training with him. Maybe half of a workout and less than 20 mpw. FR year he hovered around 20-25 mpw. Now, he's consistently 30 mpw, occasionally 35. Plenty of cross training in there.
I cannot speak for the others like Newberry and Mantecon. I suspect to be that fast in the longer events (3K-5K) at a younger age requires a lot more mileage/strength.

I was at race, not a short course, this is a true XC course with grass and rough rock. Just look at the girls Macy Wingard 17:06 and Alexandra Fox 18:06 and you know course legit.

Good chance they don't run highly competitive 800m races

this is as fast as courses get so if you are calling this one legit, you might as well call all the other fast courses legit as well.

Newberry looks like a freshmen.
A couple of these guys are on Strava. Kind of crazy that, from the brief search that I did, I found a couple of schools doing double workouts (attempted double threshold it seems like but often the paces were too fast).

Southlake is a fast course, at best North Lakes Park is on par.
Course was the same last year and this year. Samantha won in 17:09, went on to run similar times the slow Woodlands, Lubbock, and State courses. Macy went 17:21, then 10-20 seconds faster those other “legit” courses. On the boys side check all the top times Acuna, Eaton etc.

Marcus is always short. Looking at a random sample of runners on Strava who ran the meet yesterday, they were between 2.97 and 3.04 on the course. Keep in mind that GPS typically runs longer than what a wheel would be on a course. Of course everyone who ran there is invested in believing they ran faster than they actually did so they will all justify and deny.

everything is on strava these days. We all know how to the courses stack up

This course is only in its 2nd year. Distance is only one factor.
