1) She was unbeatable when she was coached by Mallard.
2) She is very beatable when coached by Kersee.
3) Not only is #2 true, but it seems like Kersee favors SML over Mu - never letting Mu challenge her in the open 400.
With Mallard now in LA, it seems like a no-brainer for Mu to return to him.

Maybe this is Mallard plan as first step to start his own pro club. With NCAA NIL changes this could be huge since USC hasn't invested in distance in the past. The downside is training options for recruits. USC is located in downtown LA so travel required for decent training options. But it can be done. I went to Cal State LA in the late 80's with similar issue and both John Tansley and Greg Ryan had successful distance programs.

That's only for distance runners. For 400/800 runners, like Mallard coached at Texas A&M, they train a lot on the track and the infield.
The big question is if Mallard is going to try to replicate the 400/800 middle distance training group that he had at Texas A&M? Or does USC just want him to be a regular distance and cross country coach?

Just thinking about the possibility of Mu ditching Bobby and reuniting with Mallard is making me excited for her future. My dream scenario for LA 2028: The Olympic schedule allows for both the 400-400H double and the 400-800 double, with the 400H and 800 happening in the first half of the week and the 400 scheduled for the latter part of the week. Mu and Sydney both win gold in their primary events and then clash in the 400 final where they are each attempting to double up. Mu wins in 47.50 and Sydney finishes second in 47.55. That will show Bobby!

That will show that Bobby was correct in his decision to prohibit Athing from running the 400 because he is scared Athing can beat Sydney.

I don't think it's Kersee. Kersee has proven himself as a coach, he's not forcing anyone to be coached by him. Dude's got Olympic Gold Medalists, World Record Holders, National Champions and has been doing it for decades. I think Mu needs to decide if she wants to be a professional runner or not. That being said, maybe there's more of a connection between Mallard and Mu, and he can get her back on track to where she was a few years ago. Dumping Mu's mental issues and or lack of motivation on Kersee isn't fair.
I hope Mu gets her mind right, she's an awesome talent!
The big prob is the money is so poor why run at meets? No residuals. Low appearance fees. No direct streaming TV studio contract. Net 30 ends up being 6 months. Athing Mu is smart to have chosen graduate school.

Mu is not a sprinter; she is a very good 400m sprinter but has limited potential in the event. The fact that she can run a 49x 400m is just a manifestation of the fact that she is a 1:54 800m runner. Sydney is a sprinter and has tremendous upside in the 400m and the fact that she is so good in the 400h is a manifestation of how good she is in the 400m dash. Sydney is at least a full second faster than Mu in the 400m and a race between the two would not be close. With all of that said, I think if Mu seriously trained for the 400m dash she could run sub-49, but then again if Sydney seriously trained for the 400m dash she could run sub-48. - So there you go.
