Feels like in my running community that folks who ran in college, or even HS, are still wicked fast relative to the training they put in, versus say, a well trained "advanced" runner who picked it up later in life.
For example, lots of these ex college runners are not putting in that much work. Many I see in the 25 MPW range with erratic volume, and can still run better than 17:00 5k and 2:45 marathon. Not talking about D1 competitive college, just anyone with a school background in running.
The more advanced end of "hobby joggers" I see are doing like 50-70mpw, cross training, yet barely cracking 3 in the marathon or ~18 in a 5k.
Simply put it seems to me that someone with a HS or college running BG can put in way less work and see better results. Do you see the same?
Are the they selected for it due to natural talent? Have they clung to their base with relatively little training, and stacked blocks forever? Is their learned economy that great?
