It’s too competitive. Better to buy an athlete overseas, throw money at them, and take the credit for “coaching them” when they were already world class to start. This will only be the more of the case as the future goes on in the NCAA.
News flash...many of the best foreign athletes were already reporting to NCAA programs. There is not some vastly untapped recruiting hot bed of international talent out there.
Track and Field is safe. Big schools have plenty of money to operate and smaller schools depend on the track kids to pay tuition fees room and board to function. Most small schools have 80-100+ members - That's a lot of money for the University. If Title 9 is still involved - it just helps keep women's Track Alive. May lower some men's numbers a bit, as well as few men's programs cut. But over-all Track is fine. Coaches will need to adjust their philosophy a bit in some cases.
Yeah for the most part you’re right and I agree. P4 coaches jobs are strictly to fill your 45 roster spots with people who’ve already proven they can strongly compete or score on a p4 level. That boils down to the top 1% of high school talent, and proven transfers, and internationals. Anyone requiring development can go develop at a small school and hit me up later.
What really sucks is my resumé or anyone else’s is worthless in the process at a p4 level. I’ve got multiple national champions under my belt - ok, cool how much money do I get? I’ve guided Kid X from walk-on to the Olympics - Sweet, the coach at Weasel State offered me a Jeep, you got a Jeep for me?
One caveat - you cannot pay internationals NIL or anything above the scholarship bc they’ll lose their student visa and be deported. So the international market will boil down to fully funded scholarship programs, and whoever can afford to or is willing to throw a 100% scholarship at someone.
Absolutely. NCAA is on hospice at best. P4 football will make its exit from NCAA in under 10 years. Basketball may follow. Then NCAA is a shell of an organization with no decent income that is a governing body for non revenue sports. Not sure where that leaves us in the track world. Somewhere bad I imagine.

What I don’t understand is the recent signings of “pro-level” Kenyans at D1 colleges. Thr 800m Olympic silver medalist was signed by Oregon. I always thought the NCAA had a requirement that you had to start college within 12 months of graduating from high school. I found this guidance online..
“Division 1 (D1) and Division 2 (D2) colleges require high school student-athletes to enroll in college no later than 12 months post-graduation. Upon acceptance, these students have five years to compete in four full years of college sports, as they can opt to redshirt (sit out of competitive gameplay for a season) for one of their four eligible years.”
Is that rule no longer in place? I’m sure the 22 year old Kenyan Olympian graduated from high school more than 12 months ago..
I understand the BYU loophole for their 2 year mission. I don’t understand the “professional Olympian Kenyan” loophole.

And believe what you’d like but my kid is a rising senior on 2nd official out of 6 lined up so far and these programs are investing full to develop (granted, can already can score in every D1 P4 conference) but they do want talent. And there have been 3-4 kids on these trips.
