I think the end result will be that both her and the Romanian wil share the bronze
That's ridiculous. The decision by the panel was correct no matter who was ruling. They didn't follow the rules, so she shouldn't get the bronze. But Romania actually asked for the bronze to be shared by all 3 athletes, which after this fiasco seems the way to go.
The Romanian athlete didn’t step out of bounds. The only one who was cheated out was the Romanian.
After Jordan’s sister peed her pants about how it was racism. Nope, just your standard inside baseball. Sis was presumably just doing what her parents and teachers have told her to do all her life when something doesn’t go her way.
I think given the circumstances they should review in depth each performance because I think this is the real reason the Romanians have fought for the medal to be awarded to them. Without the out of bounds deduction to the Romanian Chiles would have been fourth regardless of the technical error by the judges.
Either way it seems like a really sloppy job by the judges of this event.
This post was removed.
According to the article Romania argued that the US missed the one minute deadline by four seconds. But later in the article it states that the US presented video evidence that they had submitted their appeal 47 seconds after the score was posted.
I am oddly uninterested in the outcome of all this. It might have to do with the inherent variation and hidden and real bias in (subjective) scoring.
Can you tell us what the "conflict of interest" is, or do we have to wade through that schitty paywalled magazine article?
Maybe but my understanding is that isn’t reviewable. How many other elements would change if we reviewed them all?
This whole thing seems absurd. there are enough cameras that we should be able to get a time. Missing an in bounds call is crazy. And how did they score the difficulty wrong the in the first place? Granted stuff like this is pretty standard in judged events..
No one cares
Cool story bro. Next time fact check. Oh riiight... you don't care [btw, I was ready to be pretty annoyed if what you said was true. so I looked up the story]
"In a later comment in a follow-up Instagram story, Jazmin Chiles specified that she was speaking of the racism behind the "vulgar and vile comments that are being made toward my sister," which she said included several racist slurs. "I'm not calling them young ladies racist, nor am I saying racism is the root cause of this."
I started a thread asking if gymnastics was fixed everyone assured me that there was absolutely no way it was fix and that there was any kind of favoritism or predetermined outcome... so much for that.
Let me just drop in and remind everyone of why I believe subjective athletic events shouldn't be in the Olympics, no matter how spectacular it looks. Appreciate it for what it is, a marvel of human movement. Not as a competition. That's what going from point to point the fastest is for. Or to jump the highest, or to throw the furthest.
It’s why running is superior. The clock eliminates subjectivity.
Sick and tired of hearing this American prima donna story.
The officials royally screwed up multiple times. Out of bounds shouldn’t have been penalized, difficulty should have been scored correctly, challenge shouldn’t have been allowed in the first place if it was outside the one minute window, now they are saying it was within the window, arbitrator has a conflict of interest…
Awarding multiple medals seems like really the only viable solution here.
Back in the day it was always a Russian judge trying to screw over the USA.
They should just keep competing until someone stops or fails to do the trick. Just like HJ or PV, you just keep going. So if you jump up and do 3 flips and the other person does the same, you try for 3.5 or 3 flips and through a hoop, then 3 flips through a hoop that's on fire, or over water, or something... make it head to head.
its just a bronze, get over it?
or matter of principle?
nive that a video exists which can prove the 4 seconds.....
