Femke may need to ask for his support. The new Dutch right wing government plans to slash sports funding by 45 million Euros per year. This is simultaneous to athletic federation leaders saying they need an increase of 20 million Euros per year just to maintain current level.
There is quite a bit of tension and concern. Private companies and wealthy donors will be asked to contribute heavily, if the proposed funding cuts go through. The Paris success of a record 15 gold medals was much needed, toward public pressure not to cut funds and/or encouraging the private sector to get involved.
