And no medal
#6 all-time, would have been #4 all-time before today
Obliterates the NR of 1:42.34 by Brazier. The title should probably say NR since the AR (area record) was broken by Arop in 2nd.

this was faster than 2012. insane
Respect. That was a great run.
wr going down within the next 2 years
Good for him. This has been a long time coming. Redefining what's possible for American athletes in the 800.
Obviously he's going to be disappointed on missing a medal, but there's certainly no shame in setting an American record. You can't ask for much more than that.
he looked dejected to not medal with that time
Tough outcome, but couldn’t really ask for anything more from him. Everybody kinda knew he was the 4th best guy on the line, had a chance to medal and executed but the top 3 guys took care of business. Congrats BH

Sorry meant to upvote. Yes, feel badly for the guy. Was rooting for him (though not to beat Arop!).
A tad too much running in lane 2 to medal, but a great race nonetheless.
Maybe the only US athlete not rewarded with a medal for running the best race of their life this Olympics. I hate to use the word unfair, but I feel for him.
Can you imagine? We went from 1:45 winning championships and the 800 becoming a stagnant event, to the Olympics being won in 1:41.1
I remember a year ago there was a thread on if Rudisha's record could be broken and the overwhelming consensus was no
I hate waiting several minutes for NBC to show the results.
What’s up with that?
Imagine not showing the score of any team event.
Great athlete. He has the mind of a true competitor and champion to look that dissatisfied after such an amazing race.
That's a good time amigo. His body reminds me alot of Lopez lomong.
I ran 1:59 flat in highschool in 2005. I do an 800 meter time trial every 90 days. To this day my pr is still 159. Last month ran a 159.8.
Hope all is well in the high country.
That was the best 800 race of all time, right? #6 all time, American record, and somehow no medal for Hoppel. Tough, but what can you do?
Not really honestly 2012 was still above this for sure - wire to wire world record, a race so deep that it defied the logic of the time, and as much as I hate to say it, no super shoes
I wouldn't even consider this the best 800 race run by an American. That still goes to Brazier in 2019 - American record, dominant world championship gold
Insane an AR doesn't get a medal, basically would've guaranteed one in any other event at these olympics. Tough break, hope he has a nice bonus in the contract for it
....
He wasn't dejected about not getting a medal, he was pissed at knowing he will be upgraded to bronze and maybe silver in months or a couple years time. YEAH THAT PART
