Yeah. Terrible. But it was actually somewhat impressive (for them) they extended the coverage three minutes past the winner to include the top ten. What would've happened if Mantz and Young were 12th and 13th?
Are there ANY runners involved with televised marathon coverage?? If so, fans kinda like to see the finishers come in. We watched a two hour race. Give us 5 minutes of finishers. Oh yeah, and we don't need endless camera shots of the winner with his flag.
You really have to wonder, who makes the production decision, "Ok, we have hundreds of thousands of fans watching the marathon. Screw the finishers. Quick, get over to the Bulgarian guy doing the 170kg snatch. Yeah, that's what viewers want to see."

I think they have people/computers smart enough to know what they're doing
i can see it. not enough people interested in viewing the race, let alone watching finishers go on and on. marathons are not exactly ratings grabbers. no matter what marathon it is. just a boring event to the public and not many people interested or care.

Come on now, you really think "hundreds of thousands of fans" are glued to their screens watching some skinny guys run down a street for 2 hours? I'll watch a marathon but I'm under no illusions about it being a popular spectator sport.

Lmao they don't even show anyone who finishes the 10k more than 20 seconds back , why would you expect them to keep a feed on the marathon finish for like 10+ minutes.

I would expect it because Peacock had a dedicated feed to the race, and I've seen Peacock channels where you can watch the warmups for different sports. The cameras are almost certainly still running, it's not like the entire operation shuts down immediately.
I understand not showing it on NBC or Primetime coverage, but with a dedicated stream, why not? And with regards to "no one wants to watch the marathon," there were literally thousands and thousands of spectators who came out to watch just a few seconds of it. Sure, it pales in comparison to the major sports, but there is interest.

Hahaha….. The execs know one thing: Ratings. After the top ten finishers, switching to another sport makes sense.
Fking gross. At least put on the international feed like usual. The commentary was terrible as usual I had to use my vpn to tune into the BBC.
I think the commentary was just fine, the cutting away was horrible
The commentary was not fine. It was downright awful. Carrie T talked about nothing relevant to the race. No idea what was going on behind the first 4 runners. No idea the UK runner (Cairess?) was making a late charge. No mention of Bekele. Only one passing reference to Kipchoge being 8 minutes back. No idea where Mantz and Young were. Etc
of course she made sure we knew the all the guys were hurting, giving 100%, needed the crowds, the atmosphere was great, etc.
I mean practically no one is going to watch skinny men run for over 2 continuous hours in the streets it's extremely boring. Asking them to continue filming for 10 minutes so you can see the really slow guys finish is not realistic. If I was running the show, I'd likely only show top 10 finishing. It's a business and you're hyper focused on a niche sport.

Nobody wants to watch the hobby joggers trickle in. They should have IMMEDIATELY terminated transmission after the top 3 crossed the line. Like even if there was no other sport to show, the screen should have instantly gone black with no outro.
